    23.3 miles driven this morning.

66 MPG average... despite the freakishly cold conditions.

The FAQ says that the PiP and all Prius cars are exempt from California's smog test requirements for vehicle registration renewal. That is no longer true, as California has now figured out a way to smog test them.

I have a feeling that will happen with a lot of us on here with Toyota refusing to develop EV.

At the risk of being a complete jerk... it isn't "environmentally friendly" to buy a new car every three years. It's kind of faux-environmentalism.

If he bought a 2012 Prius Plug-in and now has a Leaf, then he kept that Plug-in only three years.

Personally, I'm just getting started with my three year-old, 85,000 mile Plug-in. A few monthly payments spent on upgrades and it will be better than new: Upgrade the stereo, add sound deadening, new floormats, leather seat covers... it's a nice ride.

Wow guys nice FAQ discussion over here. I'll update the thread.

Also I'm driving the MB B ED, not a leaf.

    Why?
It isn't like you throw the older car away. You sell it to someone else who needs a car and (maybe) financially can't afford a new one.
It might be a financial bad move, but I don't see how it has any significant environmental effect.

And in the case of a Prius, a PIP or other very high mpg or efficient car it could be argued that buying a new one every year helps the environment since it allows someone who might not be able to afford a new one a chance to drive a high mpg or PHEV.

Bad for the environment would be:
    - not taking care of a car so that its life is shortened
    - junking a car when it is still useful
    - not keeping the car in good running order so that it gets lower mpg (or EV miles/kwh)
    - reckless driving such that you increase the odds of being in a wreck and totaling the car

Nice. You should provide a review of your MB over in the EV section of course. I'm a little interested in how it drives and issues it may have or what you think of it.

I think it might be good to include the general differences between the PIP and standard 3rd gen Prius in the FAQ, e.g. the batteries, fuel tank capacity (and maybe expected HV range), luggage space, etc.
