I tend to focus on the EV fraction and total MPG, but today I had an opportunity to drive in HV mode only, starting from an empty battery.

    Drive: 45 miles
~ 300 feet elevation drop from 6500 to 6200 feet. 1600 ft climb before descent
I dipped into the HV reserve my last mile
    80F ambient, A/C set on Auto at 75F. High-ish humidity of ~ 80 - 85% (estimated)
    40 - 70 mph, average in the low 60s

    79.5 MPG

    That just amazes me.

Smooth driving, fuel economy and somewere a little hard to understand how to do with all the info. and the display.

In Montréal, I drive 90% electric (EV auto) and on the wighway HV ECO mode.

Now, I can drive in EV mode around 50 km. (increasing). If you drive with smoothness, you can do better than that.

Confortable with a modern design inside and ouside.

Time charge on 120V around 5 hours.

And a lot of security things like safety cruise control etc.

Very, very good car for a long distance and in a city.

All this begs the question...why would anyone drive anything other than a PRIME?

Now the rest of Canada wants to scream at Toyota for limiting Prime to just Quebec.

With that delivery date, it better be a 2018!

I agree, but they insist that no it will be a 2017. I suspect it's probably the last 2017 production run. It bugged me at first then I thought. . . . I'll have a car one model year old with zero miles.

I hope you got a good deal. It will also have a model year worth of depreciation included. :(

PS, if I ever get mine, I'll drive up to Lake McConaughy for a dip and then there will be two Primes in Nebraska.;)

Thanks for the thought, but that's not the reality in the central states. They are order only and no price breaks or incentives of any kind. If a dealer has one it's because it's already sold so there are zero test drives.

I just don't get it. This vehicle sales model is unlike anything I've ever seen here. The dealers hate it as well. If one dealer has one someone backed out on they will not trade to any other local dealer either.

I think there are still Primes for sale in Lincoln, NE. You can pick up a new Prime and dip in the lake as well.

Welcome to new Prius rollout agony... which happens every new generation.

This time is especially challenging. Toyota is rolling out worldwide all within a single year.

Would you have preferred Japan in 2017 then United States in 2018? They did that stagger in reverse for the Classic model.

other than the defects, not unlike now. but this time it's gas prices, competition, and maybe styling?

Because they also have a BMW i3-REx? <GRINS>

Both are 4-seat cars and bookend plug-in cars:
    • BMW i3-REx - ultimate EV range, even the 2014 is 72 miles and I drove it 68 miles this morning with 12 miles left over. I just drove it normally using dynamic cruise control to follow traffic.
    • Prius Prime - ultimate efficient range, the 28 miles quickly expired yesterday but dang, 60 MPG. I drove it normally using dynamic cruise control but also some high-speed, +80 mph, tests. I drove ~475 miles last weekend between 3AM and 12 noon getting 58 MPG.
Both cars just blow me away.
