Here's a link to today's NY Times article on the agreement between Volkswagen and US authorities on remedies for US owners of the "rigged emissions test" diesel cars.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/22/business/international/volkswagen-emissions-settlement.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=first-column-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news

The deal provides for a fix for the 2.0 liter diesel engines or buyback of the cars. It does not address the (fewer, I think) 3.2 liter engines.

The article does not contain a link to the text of the agreement (that I could find, anyway)--if anyone finds such a link, please post it.

We suspect official documents will be released June 21 for a 30 day, public comment period. For now, the lawyers are under a gag order during negotiations. Patience is advised.

some estimates have put the total price tag on this scandal at $30 billion.

their market cap is currently $68 billion.

I want to know: did they really think they were so clever that they'd never get caught?

Thanks!. I'll check out the other discussion.
I heard about the June 21 date (my birthday), but not about the public comment period.

I'm sure Consumer Reports still loves the vw cheat diesel, after all - it's so sporty - handles well, and it's so fun to drive . . . And after all, that's the only thing that really matters, right?

All the more reason not to follow close behind TDI's on the road. I watch for the TDI badge and drop well back when I see one! Dilution is my friend.
