Thinking of trading up to a '16 Two Eco

you sir, are very wise, putting your head above your heart. i also was hoping to trade in this fall for the pip 2, but the piece of carp prime may keep me in pip 1 for a few more years.

 

Wait for details about EV Auto mode if your daily commute is longer than 22 miles, people can already get crazy eMPG's with the orginal PiP, the Prime should do a lot better.

Going from a Gen 3 Prius, there will be diminishing returns upgrading to any subsequent Prius; Hybrids may have already gotten close to "Peak MPG" with the Gen 4, so don't count on saving much of anything, but the Prime looks awesome, and awesome counts for a lot

Oh yeah, and don't forget the Carbon Fiber hatch, that would most likely cost a small fortune to replace

So, I just traded my '13 Persona for a '16 Three Touring. No regrets. Much softer/quieter ride in the '16 on the Bridgestone Ecopia 17-inchers. Not sure about the Eco, but the Three Touring has all the goodies: Softex, Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure, Auto Headlights/Highbeams. Love the new design inside and out. The new dash displays are so much nicer. Bright, hi-res, vivid colors. Wouldn't go back.

 

The "good idea/bad idea" part depends on your financial goals, how much you drive, how much you like your '15, and about a bazillion other factors, all of which have already been fleshed out.

The only good thing about buying a new Prius every year is that you're blowing money at a slower rate than if you were a Dodge Challenger or Chevy Truck aficionado.
I always have first-year-model jitters, and unlike you I'm not especially drawn to the G4.
However (comma!) a car, even a Prius, is more than the sum of its parts....and people are attached to them in a way that would suggest that they're more than just a transportation appliance.

I've been young and in love before too, so I know how it goes.
I wouldn't let $4K stand between me and automotive bliss BUT....I also wouldn't try to justify the purchase financially.

I'd also make sure that the kid's college is taken care of and silly little things like housing and retirement are properly funded.

 

I guess my answer is yes. The Gen 4 "cloth" may be a different fabric than the Gen 2 and Gen 3, which I did not particularly like. Seems I sat in a cloth "base" Three in the showroom, and it was different. But I liked the Three Touring much more with the Softex.

 

I was able to switch my tires at time of purchase. cost me a bit but they gave me $200 for the toyo tires that were on it.

I'm accelerating my payments on my current set of cars with the goal of not having any current car payments by the time the Model 3 arrives, so I guess that could be considered saving for it. First one done in a month or two (about a year ahead of loan terms)!

 

Are you asking can 4th Gen wheels be swapped amongst trim levels....yes

Or are you asking can 3rd Gen wheels swap onto 4th Gen prius....ie Your persona wheels onto a 2016 two? Personally I think that would look awesome!!

I do believe the answer is still a yes.
