They decided to go on with the 7th installment of The Fast and Furious after a Porsche Carrera GT crashed, killing the driver and Paul Walker.

Only 1300 of this type of Porsche are running: $400K, $900 just to change the oil.

Did you know Porsche is the only car with the ignition on the left of the steering column? Just to say that make in general is kind of odd and this particular model was difficult to drive even by racers - it was not originally built for the streets.

Paul Walker's Porsche Carrera GT known for speed, difficult handling - latimes.com

Most of you know I'm a hypermiler, so movies like this are like XXX to me. :D

the driver(not Paul) destroyed a very fine car. Scott was sadly along for the ride.

Some witness said he heard a loud sound before the crash. The investigation is pending but some say perhaps a tire blow out caused the loss of control although the car itself is so fast loss of control can be easy for an inexperienced driver.

You always hate to hear about somebody getting killed from a dead-short between the seat and the steering wheel, but if you're going to buy a car like the Carrera GT?

Weeeeel, it's kinda like those knuckleheads that swim with sharks or jump out of airplanes.
It's a sad event, but I'm not going to lose a lot of sleep over it....

and WHY THE HECK can't they take all of the balloons, teddy bears, and other crap that's littering the crime scene and give it to some kids in a hospital somewhere??!!

I don't think Paul is going to be needing that stuff!!!

Oh no it's not. Lot's of older (mid 70's to 80's) RHD cars had their keys on the left.

So it's not the ONLY car. It might be the only one presently sold in America, but that's not all cars ;)

All Porsches have their ignition on the left. Goes back to the early days of Le Mans when drivers made a running start for their cars. They jumped in the car, turned the key with their left hand while putting it in gear with their right. Gave em an advantage out of the hole.

I know that after the 2nd movie came out one of my best friends drove out to get some milk, he was crossing Arlington at 31st here in LA and 2 buttwipes who were playing "Fast and Furious" racing, hit my friends car broadside, propelled the car so it was wrapped around a tree.
Joe died 4 weeks later , never coming out of his coma.
Almost every bone in his body was broken by the collision!

I just can't really get behind the sympathy thing, I still am not over Joe!

You play with fire; you're going to get burned.

    Whose fault is it?

The man died at his own hands.

Glad only that he didn't kill any innocent bystanders.

Life is NOT the movies or a cartoon or even a video game.

When you die, it is for keeps.

    I'd rather die later.

Actually, he didn't die by his own hands.
    He was the passenger.

Still, he's dead! Can't say he was NOT a willing passenger.

Just shows you how much I cared. I care MUCH more for those innocents killed by drunk drivers.

Certainly not. However you can't say he wasn't yelling at his friend to stop driving so recklessly.
All those passengers on the plane that went down in the southern Indian Ocean also got on willingly.

Walker and Rodas died from what a pilot friend of mine calls "Terminal Dumba$$."
It's s a regrettable event, but I don't see it much differently than Steve Irwin getting killed by a stingray or Earnhardt getting killed in a car race with one very notable exception!
Irwin, and Earnhardt weren't breaking the law and endangering the public.

I'm not glad it happened, but I'm not entirely shocked either.

I'll have to check Malaysian law on this, but I'm thinking that boarding an ill-fated Boeing 777-200ER probably isn't against the law either.
