I need some help on what to do. I’m using techstream. The car sat for a week and half. 12V Tested At 12.51 Thanks.

What are my options if I’m out of warranty? I need regenerative breaking and a new hv battery! The car is only 6 years old! My 12V Tested At 12.51 If You Remember. I like to drive the car ev mode usually! Some reason my code scanner showed p0A7F but Yesterday but After I rested once the my techstream computer won’t pick up that code maybe it meant to show P0A80 bc I never got that on my code scanner CP9660 Actron!

Looking at the pics, it appears module group 8 is much lower than the rest of the pack, failing, and probably is the cause of the code.

In simple terms, the cheapest fix, often called wak-a-mole, replaces that module group with another used module(s) in the same voltage range and continue on till the next one fails and the process starts again. When? Who knows..... Approx. $50 plus a whole lot of labor and the car being down for days or weeks each time this happens. A grid charger is used by shops and often individuals to balance and maintain the pack so all modules work better together. This can add days to the process too.

Or you can get a new battery (Toyota or aftermarket) from about $1600 on up and get another reliable 300k miles.

    GOOD LUCK!

Is that the original 12-Volt battery? If so, don't trust it.

If you do require a new hybrid battery, some dealers will sell these around $2200. Installation is the question. If done at a Toyota dealer, you'd get the best warranty, but pay the most. Would you consider installing one yourself? It almost looks like the HV has one bad cell; I'm sure you'll get advice on that.

Your Prius isn't a plug-in, is it? Just asking because running in EV mode doesn't take the non-PiP very far, then the engine has to run to charge the HV battery and to propel the car.

Running in EV more than the car thinks is necessary is just wearing out the battery prematurely. It only has so many cycles. And it's not surprising that it's the module in the center that reads bad since that runs warmest. So ... 300k miles is great. But seven years is not great.

For sure verify that the 12V battery is OK as mentioned above and then read codes again. Chances are, it's not the 12V, but it's smart to make sure. Next, make sure that it's not just corrosion on a sensor wire giving a bogus reading. If the battery's wiring harness checks out, on a car that new, the right fix is a new traction battery from Toyota and then you can get probably 10 more years and another 400k+ miles if you let the car decide for itself on when to run in EV.

The car has 300K miles, which in and of itself is a minor miracle, for a 3rd gen. It's in need of a new hybrid battery, or refurb, module replacement or whatever.

Have you had it since new? If the intake manifold and EGR have never been cleaned, I'd get on it right away, if you want to keep it that is.

Good point, Mendel. If the EGR system has not been cleaned, the number of miles is phenomenal. A great case study!

So, for the sake of your tiny little traction battery, don't try to use it like one unless the trip is REALLY short, like backing it out of the garage so you can wash the car or sweep the floor. You not only shorten the life of your battery, you burn extra gas charging it back up.

Time is generally accepted as the big enemy of the battery, along with heat. Miles are easy. Taxis rack up phenomenal miles on their traction batteries.
