I may or may not have a similar take.

Think the War on Drugs was started by the Nixon Administration.

Politicians will start programs to at least seem like they are getting things done. Sadly, appearances may be more important than actually getting things done.

I'm possibly going to get in trouble with this quote:

Lets at least start with legalizing pot. The claim its a gateway drug is moot as any 15 year kid can get pot quicker than they can order a pizza. And local kids are buying this new synthetic pot sold in headshops as its really cheap that is pretty nasty stuff and no laws exist for it presently. There now trying to outlaw it though, but my point is some making it illegal is not doing anything. In fact it makes it more interesting to alot of kids.

Make it legal. We could desperately use the tax money, and it would put a serious dent in the Mexican cartel which is incredibly powerful and dangerous. And maybe the local grow house idiots will stop blowing up the nieghborhood electrical grid trying to bypass the power meters.

Because obviously we are not winning the war on drugs.

But like alot of posters mentioned its not common sense that is dictating this. Like every other law in this country that makes no sense see who is making money on it at the end. Its always the money. I think the level of corrupt politicians has reached the tipping point in this country.

    Isn't that the peace option?

It's would be the war option to all the parasites on both sides of the law that are making money off the illegal drug business.

The law of unintended consequences says that all those people (on both sides of the law) making money off the illegal drug trade would try to find other undesirable ways to stay in business doing what they are used to doing.

The problem is everywhere, not even Singapore is immune.

SINGAPORE: The number of drug abuse cases has fallen in the first half of this year. It has dropped by 13 per cent to 820 cases, compared to the same period last year.

According to the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), its mid-year statistics showed that repeat cases also went down by 13 per cent.

However, there was an increase in heroin abuse. Compared with 2008, this year saw a 21 per cent rise in heroin abusers being arrested.

Authorities said this was due to a lack of subutex in the market since it was outlawed a few years ago after users started abusing the drug. Subutex was used as a form of replacement therapy for heroin addicts.

Currently, 8mg of subutex costs about S$80 to S$120, while a straw of heroin costs about S$30 to S$35 in the illegal drug trade...
