Thanks for the pix, Ed. Your experience is almost identical to mine. No way to get all the old oil out and no reason to try as long as you're using good oil and changing it and the filter on schedule or sooner. And, btw, my PiP is due for an oil change this weekend.

I used the longer factory oil filter this last change. I want to see how easy it is to remove vs the normal one. Filter before that was a Fram with the grip stuff on the end. That wasn’t too bad. First filter was from an oil change place. I needed to hammer a cap style wrench on it and it took 30 foot pounds to remove it. Oil plug had a copper gasket on it the thickness of 2 sheets of paper.

If you can get an extra ounce or two out, I'm all for that. I suspect the "dregs" would have the most particulate too.

your missing my point, if you use good oil and filter there should never be any dregs to worry about.

:ROFLMAO: I've been married over 44 years now and my wife still doesn't always know when I'm sarcastic. (But she has improved.) I keep telling her to just watch my lips. If they're moving, I'm being sarcastic. Nice to have someone around who appreciates this fine art.

    My favorite part is:

"Oops! There's still some old oil on the head, in the bearings, and in other places. I guess it really calls for a total disassembly of the engine"

By the way, been married 35 years.............still fun trying to figure each other out!

In motor mechanics all references to left and right are from the perspective of sitting in the driver's seat looking forward. So in actual fact in the USA the engine is on the right side of the car (just as it is everywhere).

In the old days when Mobil-1 first came out (back when it is was probably actually synthetic oil) sometimes they would do flush to get the old stuff out. These days presumably oil is *not* like spoiled milk where you do not want to mix the microbes with fresh milk even at small levels.
