It is entirely possible that Toyota thinks its Japaneese customers are smart enough to have thier tires rotatated by someone who will actually make sure that pattern is not contraindicated by the specific brand/model tire.

And that people in Americal cannot be trusted to excersise that level of care.

    Not sure, just one possibility.

Personally, I like to go by the Owner's Manual. It's information was generated by the engineers who created and tested our automobile. It makes the most sense that their guidance is meant to assure the most trouble-free, longest life product experience for their customers. Why would I claim to know better than to follow their advice?

Regardless, there are owners that seem to believe they should either ignore or make alternative decisions than the recommendations from the manufacturer. I would recommend those people just execute their own procedures without seeking others' approval for being obstinate.

Like I said: do what you like.

But unless you're a Toyota (or Bridgestone, or Dunlop, etc...) engineer, your seat of the pants opinion is just that, and nothing more.

I respect your way of thinking, and WRT to the tire rotation pattern am only asking questions-- not seeking permission or making recommendations of my own.

I am genuinely curious what it is about the US version of the Prius which causes Toyota to recommend front to back rotation only, as opposed to the patterns suggested by Brigestone (in my case) on other cars.

Bridgestone clearly defers to Toyota's judgement, but why is the recommended rotation pattern different on a Prius? Do the Toyota engineers know something that the Bridgestone engineers don't? Or is this because of the TPMS?

Here is the tire manual came with my car:

    I understand.

The best way to get an answer to your curiosity (good question btw) is to start writing to Toyota and Bridgestone.

No one here (including myself) will possess the insight or experience to properly answer your question.

(And that's not a slight in the vast bank of experience and knowledge here.) I've learned lots from the great members here!!

I plan to just go with the simple maint. schedule in the owner's manual. And damn the service writers that try and hard-sell and push unnecessary services on unsuspecting customers! I bought my Prius because I thought (and hope!) it will be low-maintenance.

I owned my 2010 for 6 years and 130k miles. Maintainance was oil changes, gasoline, and tires. I also replaced the coolant(s) at 100k, and the transaxle fluid at 15k and 80k. That was it.

Don't let the service writers convince you otherwise.

I agree, eric. And I like your low-maintenance. Sounds good.

No brake inspections? Or did you just forget to mention?

Other'n that I agree: way too many extras pushed. But brakes, they're like going to the dentist: no news is good news.

Who supplied the tire manual? Did it come from Toyota? Was it part of the documentation set supplied by the dealer?

I am curious. Where did you get the tire manual? Is it a Toyota publication? Was it part of the documentation set supplied by the dealer with the car?

I have a Toyo tire booklet that came with my Toyota manuals. But honestly, I never even opened it. (It may just be warranty info.)

I going to use Toyota's recommendation for tire rotation. The simple front-to-rear / rear-to-front.

at the dealer right now for my 10,000 mile service. Im opting for front to back. Simple and easy. No reason to overthink.

Typically with a new car I've gotten an Owner's Manual, Warranty Booklet, and a pamphlet from the tire company. That's the case with our 2010, which came with Michelin Pilots. The Michelin pamphlet said straight back and cross to front. I figured Toyota's instruction in the Owner's Manual overrode that though.

I don't think it matters much either way, the main thing is getting the fronts to back and vice versa.

Hey Kevin, while you're there, can you check in the parts dept please, and see if they have any Fob covers for our 2016? Thanks.

The Toyos that come with the 2016 Prius 3 have a non-aggressive tread so probably have poor snow traction. My plan is to get a pair of Nokian WRg3s and two extra rims to use as snow tires on the front. When spring comes I will rotate the rear Toyos to the front and store the Nokians till the next winter. When I wear out the Toyos, I'll go all Nokian.
