There is variation in rolling resistance. Some new tires will roll well from the get go, others will drop your mpg, for sure.

There's multiple problems with the current definition, no central testing for starters. And the gamut under which a tire can be defined as LRR is maybe too broad. And I'd speculate there are behind the scenes manufacturing differences: tires can have the same name, but vary in rolling resistance, maybe due to country of origin, or they're special order?

Our Michelin Pilot do decent, even though they're well down the list for "fuel economy" on Michelin's website, not categorized as LRR. Perhaps improving as they age??

Must have missed that about the X Ice. I stand corrected. But again, it's Michelin claiming they are LLR. Tire rack is just passing long the manufacturers info. Mine were on the stock rims, so I did have to swap them twice a year. And yes, it was a pain. The snow performance was worth it, but when they hit end of life this Spring I still renewed my search for a better all season to see if I could avoid that. When I read both the pro and user reviews for the RT43's snow capabilities it was like "too good to be true". I am hoping it's not. And also hoping that the vibration comments that came up in the user reviews almost enough to dissuade me from buying them prove to not be widespread. But since the price also had some of that too good to be true attached to it, I am crossing my fingers.

    A stand-alone post:

"Are LRR tires (choose your phrase)"

In one of the forums would probably be interesting.

it makes sense that tyre manufacturers are trying to improve rolling resistance while maintaing other attributes as much as possible. and car manufacturers are demanding them to help them meet cafe standards, without having to do as much heavy lifting. but there aren't any standards in place yet, so it's still the wild west.

Toyo tried to make a big deal about how they used nut shells (forget what kind) to enhance traction for their dedicated snow tires. Hey, maybe that could be the new thing. NATURAL ORGANIC LRR tires with tree nut shells!!!.

Shoo, I should not have said that without first copyrighting it.

Organic has very strict standards. Although they are being attacked by large corporations that are trying to take over the industry, and may not last much longer if the USDA caves.

Just give me a chocolate donut, a grilled steak, and a decent affordable set of all-season tires that will last longer than 25K, and I'm good to go.

So, bought RT43 for two cars in the last 45 days.

First time, bought just before they had a short-lived rebate (the day before). Not happy, but oh, well.

That rebate offer expired. But a couple of weeks later they had another (that is still running). So, I bought second set of RT43 tires.

Sent rebate off a week and four days ago -- online -- and was told to wait 8-12 weeks. Just received my $50 in the mail today. Super-fast cashback and I am super happy. :)

I have a set of these going on my C next week. They rate nicely on TireRack.com, even when you filter down to view just the Prius C ratings.

I've had them on my car for a week now. I had no idea how rough and loud my Bridgestone 422 Plus' had become.

I have a set on our other subcompact and love them. Very quiet. When we burn out the factory tires on the c these tires are at the top of my list.
