I had my TPMS light get into a funky state. It blinks a lot at startup and then stays lit while driving. Most hits for this symptom are malfunction of the TMPS system. I am not interested in taking the car to a dealer. All the tires have good pressure.

Tonight I am going to do the TPMS reset procedure.

Not sure if related at all, but I did have a radio in the back seat while I was at a drive in movie theater. Problem suspiciously started the day after.

Any suggestions to what the issue might be on a2007 with about 190K with the original tire TPMS valves?

After 12 years, a failed TMPS battery. Quite common.

I have to agree. My '14 Scion iQ with just over 15k miles does the same once in a while, then the light goes away. (If you have a Sam's Club membership you might be pleasantly surprised with their repair pricing)...

OK. Wondered if the battery going could get it into this mode. I chose not to replace the TPMS recently when things were working. I think those units are too high priced. I should have cut them apart and swapped the batteries. I did the recent tire swap in my basement.

I looked at Sams club. Did you actually get a replacement for a TPMS there?
    TPMS Sensor Installation
    $5.00 per-wheel charge

I guess that is provided you bring in a new $40? sensor.

I think I am going to fix the warning light with some electrical tape

    Thanks again for the responses.

I called the local one here in El Monte, it was either $35 or $40 total per sensor to replace. The local America's Tire (Pasadena) was $60 or $70 per sensor. It was a huge difference. Since my Scion iQ does not have a spare it is quite scary when I miss the blinking and only see a light. I put a tire gauge in the trunk and pull over to check the tires....

Maybe I don't understand the TPMS reset procedure. Anyone know the "official" steps to take to try to reset?

Also, is there a way to turn the light off if the TPMS is not working? I would rather disable the light than cover it with tape.

I tried a TMPS reset based on what I saw online.

I verified all pressures were good in the tires
Foot off bake pedal, I pressed the power button 2x
The TPMS light came on, I pushed in the TPMS reset button
When the TPMS light started blinking, I held it for thee flashes and released it
I left the car in this state ( ignition on) for over 20 minutes.

Does this sound like the reset procedure?

    The battery is dead.

Mine all went dead at around 10 years.

    OEM is Denso @Amazon.com

You can't reset a dead battery...
The light is flashing and thengoing solid because the car has lost communication with one or more of the TPMS modules.

Well, just dropped by the Sam's Tire Center here and bummer, there's a $20 fee on top of the $40 so I was told "no more than $75" to find and replace one sensor. That's still a lot of money! Sorry about the error!!!

It seems pointless to replace just one, as it is likely that all will have dead batteries 'soon'. Unless the goal is only very short term such as to pass an inspection and/or to sell the car promptly and dump the issue to someone else.

If planning to keep the car, then now is time to decide to either replace them all, or just punt and cover the light with tape.

fuzzy1, that's very true. My situation is unusual though because the '14 has just above 15k miles. Kind of early for all to fail me...

For a 2014, a single sensor replacement still likely makes sense. Just not for a 2007.

Well I had one go bad at 9-years and ( if you follow my posts) I made a fake reading for that one. The other 3 lasted almost 12-13 years some are still alive (I can tell from my new Autel 401 TPMS reader). But yes if I had clearly realized the batteries go dead., I would have replaced them all at a tire change. Howver, I found my tire change place still charged me $30 a tire and I supplied the Denso TPMS's. So recently my other car I took it my mechanic to replace 3 TPMS and they charged $25 /tire, and I supplied the Denso pre-programmed all thay had to was install, which let's face it is probably $25 labor.

Chrylser/Dodge/VW had TPMS units that failed catastrophically after corrosion/salt I think there is class action suit, so batterry life is not the only consideration. I had 2 of those go on me on the highway, but shame on me for the second one. No longer possible I got rid of the other 2. They were about 8-9 years old so it wss not instant failure.

OK. Thanks everyone.. I am not going to replace the TPMS valves.

Anyone know if I can eliminate the light? I was going to use black tape, but is there an alternative?

All the alternatives are harder, more time consuming, and more expensive. Both to apply initially, and to reverse if you ever need to deal with an inspection or sell the car.

You can see my thread below:
TPMS Management with Techstream | PriusChat

But that presumes you have some device (eg; Technstream) to set the codes. I found the Toyota OEM TPMS Denso could be squeezed with a binder clip to give a fake pressure reading., which I used to snuff out my TPMS light. That assumes you have access to a spare TPMS to fiddle with, and keep in your car to provide a fake reading.

Also the act of simply resetting the codes can temporarily snuff out the TPMS light until the car realizes the data is not beng updated, which can take a real long time if all you do is short trips. One anecdotal case the light stayed off forever.

    Black tape is your friend.

I seem to recall there may be paper clip jumper hack option on Gen3., but I am thinking we do not have the option on Gen2.

my 2011 Prius IV threw the tpms flashing and then TPMS solid last week.
pumped up all tyres to the recommended PSI (35 front, 33 rear).
went for a 15 miles drive but the problem persists.

gonna cover the light with a round bandaid.
and check the tire pressure every couple of months.
already have to check tyre pressure on my 2003 SRT-4 (non-tpms) so no sweat.

I'm pretty sure that means one or more sensors are dying/have a dead battery.
