First Full-Electric Lexus to be Next-Generation CT Hatchback? | Lexus Enthusiast

Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, one of the leading daily newspapers in Japan, is reporting that the next-generation Lexus CT hatchback will be offered with a full-electric powertrain by 2020.

Production of the CT EV is said to start in mid-2020 at the Toyota Motor Kyushu factory, and will be offered in China first before making its way to the rest of the world. This timeline would certainly fit with the larger picture, as Lexus parent company Toyota has announced plans to introduce more than 10 EVs by the early 2020s.

IMHO the CT is dead in the water in north america. This appears to be an asian, but mainly for chinese market, bev. I doubt this could compete with the leaf and bolt in north america let alone the model 3. Hopefully toyota learns from its asia bev experiment and builds a more competitive offering.

Perhaps the rav4 phev mentioned in the japanese is meant for north america. By the time it is released ford will have the escape energi shipping in the US, and mitsubishi has been sucessful with their phev suv in japan.

Only 500 LFa were built from 2010-2012. #500 - Whitest White, with the Nurbürgring package - rolled off the Motomachi production line 12/14/2012.

Might explain why it's not a high volume sales car.

It says China get deliveries first. Must be easier to build in all the requisite safety features their ..... maybe different/less expensive standards?
