Not sure if anyone has any more up to date info but here is a quote from the following link:

Toyota says Japan plants may be affected by virus-related supply issues - Reuters

"We are receiving parts from China as normal for the moment, but we will assess the situation after the week of March 2," a Toyota spokeswoman told Reuters."

While it is very understandable if production does slow down, and of course the safety and health of people obviously should take priority, I know those who are waiting on a Prime to be delivered from Japan must be hoping the already long 90-120 day wait does not end up being much longer.

I think they'd hope to keep their auto production going as much as is safely possible with how much their economy might depend on it.

    another quote from that link:

"Japan is a major site of production for the company, accounting for nearly half of the 10.7 million cars its sold globally in 2019"

of course they want to, but if the goc says shut it down and go home, you have no choice.

everyone is hoping a couple weeks of isolation will have a dramatic impact

I understand that the RAV4 Prime will be built in the U.S. I wonder how many or what percentage of the parts of a U.S. built Toyota must be sourced from Toyota's Japanese factories?

China's on the up swing BECAUSE this virus was taken seriously. Look it up!

Which country will have the longest recovery period?

Our's is sure not taking it seriously. But then it's hard to take our top leadership seriously, with all the contradictory info coming out.

(Unfortunately some think Faux is News. It is not.)

    Please forgive me for assuming.
And please tell us how I offended you.

I was only talking about 'The Rona',,,, in kid speak....

Your TDS didn't offend me. I'm just asking you to take it (and personal innuendos) elsewhere - politics, etc.

I can appreciate that there are strong feelings on both sides politically, and NO offense intended towards either side, but we need to try to keep political views out of a forum not meant for politics or else it could end up in unfriendly debates. I prefer to stay friendly with all fellow Prius fans regardless of their political views.

I am on another forum meant specifically for discussions on a specific hobby, the moderators there understand how quickly political discussions can get out of hand so they prohibit political discussions as that forum is meant for discussions on a hobby and not politics, and because of that things tend to stay more on topic and more friendly :D .......again, no offense meant towards anyone, so please don't take my post personally. Thanks !

OK, I agree. I don't follow politics. Haven't for almost 4 yrs. I feel like an Expat.
However this is a Public Health Crisis, and we need leadership, NOW, and I'm afraid a 2 week national lockdown is what is needed. That is how other countries got on top of the problem.

And I'm sure T is doing the best he can,,, bless his heart.

That was a good idea, that way those who want to avoid political debates can just avoid that particular thread, and those who do can join in, smart idea ! :D

oh there's a whole political section. if a mod notices anyone mentioning politics, or it gets reported, the thread gets moved there.
but then, only a few people can see it, and a thread like this would get lost.

Back to the question. If a Toyota is built in the USA, how many of the parts like engine, transmission, traction batteries, etc. were produced in the USA? Or do they all come from Japan or China and are just part of the assembly?

Good question, I just did a quick online search and found an article that included the following:

"Every car assembled in the United States contains a significant percentage of foreign parts, according to government data.

"There are no purely American vehicles," said Michelle Krebs, senior analyst at AutoTrader. "These are global automakers who use global sources for all types of parts." (end of quote)

That was from a 2018 article, but I would think it still applies today.

agred, parts for cars built in any country likely come from many countries
