    Nice! I don't want a crew-cab pickup but a basic, simple truck.

Too bad Toyota has no idea what this customer wants.

Exactly! Here in the US, pick-up trucks have become luxury SUVs with a small open bed. What I need is a truck with a long bed that can take 8x4 plywood flat on the bed floor.

None of today's mini pick-up can do that. I almost bought the last breed of the kind, an old used Ford Ranger regular cab (no extra seat or space behind front seats) with a long bed, when I was looking for a replacement for our Sienna mini-van which was being used as a utility van at that time. But, the truck was a mess, all rusty, with high mileage, and the price was way higher than what I was expecting to pay for an old beat-up pickup truck.

Spotted one of their kei pick ups on the commute a couple weeks ago. It was orange.

This van is nearly 2 feet shorter than the original xB. I don't think it will be hauling plywood sheets inside. It might not reach 100 miles on the EPA.

Neither can my $40K Escape PHEV. Yeah, what do you expect for a $7300 neighborhood BEV? Even without any incentives, I can buy 7 of them for the price of one F150 Lightning. It would be very handy for our around-town hauling.

I think that price is a base loss leader trim you'd have trouble finding in Japan. The GEM e4 is over $15k in the US, and doors are an option.

A comment here reports Honda's release as saying it starts at $7300. Like the ICE model, which is usually sold for around $14k

All these kei cars have a quirky coolness to them. Too bad they likely wouldn't pass US regulations to be fully street legal today.

I thought the magic seats of the Fit were Nifty, the N-Van takes it to the next level.

Toyota had a concept SUV with fold-down seats that made a flat-floor like that. But it never made to the real product AFAIK. I don't really care about seats. If the Ford E-Transit cargo van was a bit more affordable, it would be perfect.
