    Ah.

Then again, that doesn’t necessarily mean that SuperChargers are far from those roads.

For example, in my case, there are really only three road trips I take with substantial frequency. The longest of them has a SuperCharger more or less right in the middle; not sure about the other two. Let’s suppose not, meaning that only one of three of my typical road trips has a SuperCharger.

Looking at the map, I can see that the reverse isn’t necessarily true: I can see quite a few other, probably-reasonably-popular (and comparatively-rural) trips for which that SuperCharger is either on the way or not a particularly big detour.

Talking about a "superchargers", the dealer I contacted about used LEAF kept repeating how wonderful this 2013 LEAF is with the optional supercharger as if that was the ONLY selling point of this car with 84 miles range when new and god knows how much is left now. I had to tell her, even if I get the car, I will not reach the nearest supercharger station let alone getting back to my home. The dealer was about 200 miles from where I live, and the closest supercharger station is even further away. lol

We have video of Bob Lutz saying it was to 'leap frog the Prius':

". . . to give a new perception of the company [GM rjw]."

I've sat in a Volt and along with the performance specs, still went with a 2017 Prius Prime. The Volt at the local dealer did not have dynamic cruise control and the sales critters didn't understand nor did GM management.

Hmmm... I’m not sure what to think she meant by an “optional SuperCharger” on a LEAF. By that name at least, “SuperChargers” are Tesla-owned devices that, for now at least, only Teslas can use.

Perhaps she’s referring to its CHAdeMO (Japanese DC quick-charge) charging port? If so, then I’m not sure how it would be an option for you, in that I’d assume it was either built with one or not. Also, although pretty quick, it’s not as “Super” at 50KW as Tesla’s SuperChargers at about double that, and they’re beginning to install 350KW V3 SuperChargers.

But anyway, indeed the original LEAF’s range is pretty puny by today’s standards, and since Nissan gave it (effectively) no battery-cooling system, as you alluded.

Then again, that would be enough to get me to and from work every day...

Yap, I think they meant the optional CHAdeMO DC quick-charging port available on LEAF, but since CHAdeMO charger are even rarer than Tesla's Supercharger station, and as I understand it, you can charge Leaf at Supercharger station with CHAdeMO adapter, they used that term.

Hmmm... Can you (charge a LEAF at a Tesla SuperCharger)? I think they’re strictly for Teslas, or anybody who strikes an appropriate deal with Tesla. As I understand it, Tesla is open to that, but nobody has taken them up on it yet.

IDK, to tell the truth. Maybe not. Makes no difference to me since there is no Supercharge station nor DC fast station near me (not even within the standard M3 range). The dealer lady might be just blowing smoke.

There are adapters to let a Tesla use CHAdeMO.
I guess it is possible for a Leaf to charge at a Supercharger from a technical stand point, but not legal at this time.

OK, that means without DC quick station nowhere close to my home, I would not be able to drive LEAF (even the new LEAF Plus) anywhere outside of the range. Well in fact, I can't drive it home from the dealer even if I buy it new.

I heard on some YouTube video recently (can’t immediately recall which) that the CHAdeMO and CCS adaptors only work on Model 3, and not Models S nor X. Can’t vouch for that info, but FWIW...

My understanding and observation about CHAdeMO and Tesla:
    1. They work with Model S/X - I have seen them at the HSV fast DC charger
    2. Not advertised to work with Model 3 - a CHAdeMO adapter would seriously help my ordered Model 3.

Ah, maybe I misheard, or the makers of the video misheard.

You ordered a Model 3? Cool & congrats! What kind?

It is the other way around.
    CHAdeMO Adapter
Now, there might be one available for the Model 3 from a third party. As I understand it, Supercharger and CHAdeMO use the same communication protocols. Which is why there isn't a CCS adapter. So it should only be a matter of time before the Model 3 can use CHAdeMO.

    yea - but GM will sell ya a dynamic CC .... on the $65K Caddy . . . .

gotta love the OP's thread title . . . . . Toyota - one of the largest transportation companies loosing the EV sales. Well does it matter? If customers want big - SUV's - Pickups - then that's the way to go. They're just mad because Toyotas are reliable & they want a reliable EV from a reliable company. No one's going to goad them into it.

Most people tend to think it's only a matter of time until the 3 gets one. Those adapters aren't cheap though.

you don't know the ½ of it. When we ordered our X, there was a rumor that there would be 2 onboard charger options, a higher power & standard 48amp - but only one showed up on the order page. Later it was discovered there was an invisible menu between one of the paragraphs, and if you held the secret place down long enough (or tap .... about 5 or 10 seconds) Voilà ! the secret 72 amp order selection would show up.
Who does stuff like that !?!
