Toyota Launches the 'Vitz' Hybrid Grade | TOYOTA Global Newsroom

If that looks like a Yaris... that's because it is, Vitz is what Toyota calls the Yaris hatchback in Japan. This is the second facelift of the 3rd-gen Vitz/Yaris, but what's interesting is that Toyota is going ahead and selling a hybrid version in Japan - I think that makes Japan the first market that will get both the Vitz/Yaris Hybrid and the Aqua/Prius c.

It's still using the 1NZ-FXE, though, and hasn't moved to a 2NR engine (which would likely improve thermal efficiency). And, I'm assuming it's still using the P510 gearbox as used in the existing Yaris Hybrid and the Aqua/Prius c - all the talk in that press release is of enhanced control of the hybrid system hardware (read: software), not enhanced hardware.

Nope, and it looks like no manual Vitz - hybrid or otherwise - will be available at all in Japan.

It'll almost certainly be the same powertrain setup as the what we in the US get as the Prius c.

    Googled, it's a Prius c transaxle.

I know, superfluous, but I just can't shake my dismay over Toyota's current front end styling, the iconic grill, the swooping (and dang pricey) headlights, and the "ports" at the fog light locations. Looks like wheel covers on steel rims too. S'okay.

    The Toyota badge looks different?

Maybe I'll just check back in a decade, lol.

Yes, the front logo is different in Vitz

but the typical Toyota Logo at the back its been like that as far as i can remember

This Vitz Hybrid is creating quite a stir here in Pakistan, many people looking forward to the launch so they can import one for themselves from Japan.

Vitz has been coming in as Gray Imports since more than a Decade & its a big favourite here in the small car category

    available in 1.0, 1.3 & 1.5 L Variants

    its surprisingly comfortable

I am sure most people using Prius C would opt for Vitz Hybrid any day if the Fuel Efficiency isnt much less

Even the Vitz 1000cc is much more comfortable & spacious than Aqua 1500cc

I like the looks and that blue color. Is it the same blue as the prime?

This is apparently a new color specific to the Vitz/Yaris, "Clear Blue Crystal Shine".

Clear Blue Crystal Shine.... so a pearlescent 3-coat blue? Interesting.

Probably the nicest set of taillights ever fitted to a Yaris

It looks like the hybrid uses the 1.5L Prius engine. That is larger than the Prius c engine.

The Gen 1 (both NHW10 and NHW11), Gen 2, Aqua/Prius c, and Vitz/Yaris Hybrid all use variants of the 1NZ-FXE, which is 1.5 liters.

OK, for some reason I thought the Prius c had a smaller 1.2L engine, smaller than the rest of the "Prius family".

It's smaller than its contemporaries that have 1.8L.
