The My Owners Toyota website has lost all of my vehicle’s service data. After being unable to access for over two weeks, I called Toyota Customer (We Don’t) Care, and he pulled up my records. All of the service information I entered on my 120,000 mile, five year-old car is wiped. It’s gone, and they didn’t even apologize.

I have a bunch of entries on my phone’s Notepad... but I really didn’t expect Toyota to lose all of their customers’ vehicle service history.

That's good. Select 'em, copy 'em, email a laptop or desktop, and back that up as well. Good to go.

I don't even bother with spreadsheet, not needed for simple log file. I maintain a text file (.txt extension), do the same for a couple of my kids vehicles. On a PC I find TextPad is the bees knees, a text editor that runs circles around the rudimentary editor built-in to Windows.

Note the multiple tabs across the top, it maintains a "desktop", every time you open the program it opens all those files, at the same position in each, with selections as before. Lots of little tricks, hotkeys for current date, or time, the ability to change case, sort lines, search/replace, and on and on:

@Rebound I'm guessing Toyota site will be back up, still, a good wake up call.

I've got all my receipts too, but with my DIY they don't really tell the story.

Another thing, handy with electronic-only receipts: "print" them in PDF format, if you can swing it. I use Acrobat, but maybe there's cheaper alternatives?

    And: back up.

Doesn't Toyota backup their data bases occasionally?

Shouldn’t their databases be backed up continually, with redundant RAIDs? Thought that was pretty standard.

It looks like I’ve found the data, although their website still isn’t working well. I have it all copied but I’d hoped that keeping it on their site would provide a good record in case it’s ever sold. Maybe Carfax would even scavenge it

I've entered my records in there, but suspect it is a waste of time. Paper or a spreadsheet are far less cumbersome to update or share. Dealers can't see what you have done, and neither can a subsequent owner.

Yeah even the site comes 100%, don't make it your prime record.

That's the way I look at Fuelly.

My records are gone for everything up to 24000 mile checkup.. Luckily I too have the paper trail. And once I was past the three years maintenance, I take my car to a private place. Total paper trail to hand the next owner. I know its ''old school'' but I just don't trust the Toyota dealer.

My data are back, but all of the dealer records are dated January 31, 1969.
