Thanks, AZ - I will PM them and use their tips for my PiP's maiden journey. By the way, why are you buying the car in Palo Alto when it was available, at least through the pre-order in Arizona? I am buying in CA because the PiP is not available in CO until 2013.
And for you waiters in SoCal, here's the Texas Highway passing through north San Francisco Bay on its way out the Gate. As I post this, it's just passing Land's End. So my Clearwater Blue Advanced must be offloaded by now. At least, I sure hope so. Is anyone else besides COIllini1 and me taking delivery at Putnam off this one?
I just returned from a trip, and decided to drive by the Bencia port to see if the Texas Highway was still there- it wasn't there, but from a distance, I saw many toyota cars that had been off-loaded.
It was a timing thing. I wasn't getting any status updates from the local dealer on my order and saw that the Palo Alto car was coming in, likely two months ahead of my local order. It's all moot now. So now I am waiting for New Nada to cross the Pacific. The vessel tracking has a lot to be desired because you can't get real time updates when the ships are out of range (or at least not on the free versions of the tracking sites). New Nada has been out of range for 10 days now, though I have to believe it should be getting close to San Francisco within the next day or so. Then I have to wait for the off-load at Benicia, trip down to Long Beach, off-load at Long Beach, processing at port, transfer to Tucson, processing at dealership, and then I will be a happier camper. So, technically, the car is available. Just have to wait for it. I am certain that will be the case for PiPs most everywhere soon. --- iPad ?
This part of the wait is INDEED the longest - or at least it sure seemed that way. When your car is finally off the boat - and it's THAT close. You won't be disappointed. It'll be worth your wait, that's for sure. Hang in there!
Thanks. I understand now. You finally did end up buying in AZ. As I understand it, one positive thing about buyin in AZ, if you are trading in your old car, is that you save on sales tax on the trade in value. In CA you pay tax on the total value of the new car whether or not you have a trade in.
Yes, that's correct. The problem is that, unless you are trading in a newer, higher value vehicle, you aren't likely to benefit. It's usually better to sell privately because you can get more than what the dealership will offer on a trade. In my own case it will be something like $3,000 less for the trade-in. The tax break on that trade in value may be only $750, so selling privately keeps more money in your pocket. iPad ?
I picked up mine last night! I had to drive it 160 miles back home, but here it is fully charged up and ready for action!
Should be the end of the pre-orders. I had one built, on the other side of the garage, just next to the solar panels meter. But pip's cable wasn't long enough to reach. So, I ended up using a regular outlet. I had to track down all electric appliances, that were plugged in into that circuit, unplug them, and only after such inspection I was able to charge the car. I found a very cool feature on Entune, that shows the progress of charging on your phone. And when it is done you get an email - charge complete. Very cool....
Thank you. I don't know... I looked at those files...For some reason it shows pix of a different Toyota car instrument panel, I have more buttons on my PIP... I also found some discrepancies in the description of some audio and navigation features.. I guess the pure/native pdf Plug-In manual doesn't exist yet. Only the printed one, that came with the car.
The Plug-in Prius, depending on whether its a Base model or Advanced, comes with 2 different possible radio/navigation head units. The advanced model has the Premium HDD Navigation and the base has the Display Audio with Navigation. I'm guessing these are the differences you are seeing in the PiP owners manual PDFs.
Does anyone have relatively definitive information about Toyota's vehicle status in their system? As far as Allocated, Port, Freight etc and when the states change? I've been told by my dealer that my prius c has transitioned to Port status with no date or ETA. (The port should be Portland, serving Iowa through Kansas City, based on what I've deduced on here) As has been the case all along, in working with my dealer, its hard to differentiate the apathy from the ignorance from the true lack of information.
Any ships leaving Japan this week and heading for Long Beach? My dealer says that my C is supposed to be put on a ship this week.
