Toyota City, Japan, August 5, 2010—Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that cumulative sales in Japan of its hybrid vehicles have topped the 1-million mark, while more than 2.68 million units have been sold globally as of July 31, 2010.
    -----
TMC's stance is to further promote the use of hybrid vehicles, through such measures as aiming to sell 1 million hybrid vehicles a year as early as possible in the 2010s, and introducing hybrid models in all vehicle series in its lineup as early as possible in the 2020s.

One million per year is a big goal. A quick search gave me the result of 8.97 million vehicles sold in 2009. So they want approximately 11% of their sales to be hybrids. Who knows what it is now?

Also, do you think they will OFFER hybrid all models in the 2020s or do you think their will move to ENTIRELY hybrids? Is that the end goal?

Hopefully by 2030, ICE-only version will become an option from all Toyotas.

Re: Toyota Press release:[A]1 million Japan hybrid sales hyhrid option on all models in 2020s

We can see numbers from the link on the top post.
    2008 0.43 million
    2009 0.53 million
    Jan-Jul, 2010 0.43 million

It looks the US hybrid sales is not good for these months, but I believe the US hybrid market is the biggest in the world.
Hope the US economy will be entirely recovered soon and the gasoline prices are going up. :)

I think 1 million sales will be achieved in 2012.
I don't think Toyota will move to ENTIRELY hybrids in the 2020s.

    FYI,
On the same day, Toyota posted an interesting hybrid information.
TOYOTA: Some Information for the Interested -The Toyota Hybrid System-

    • Do you know how the Toyota Hybrid System was created ?
    • We often listen to consumer feedback on the mechanism of the Toyota Hybrid System.
    • Do you know how environmentally-considerate the production plant of the Prius is ?
    • Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd. has started production of the Auris Hybrid.
    • We will strive to live up to our "always better cars" motto to anticipate consumer needs.

The Prius and the Corolla are the biggest passenger cars there. The 4 minivans listed are about Mazda5 sized (though I think the Serena is bigger IIRC).

IOW, they're small car. A Corolla may not fit most garages or alleys.(parked to one side)
