I get the sense the latest Prius was, more than ever, designed on a drawing board, by eager-to-please young designers. It a very visual-centric design, appearance for appearance sake.

Yeah I know, abusing a dead horse.

Move to England, Bisco! It's called the Auris and it's the same car as the US Corolla iM, except in England it's available with a hybrid powertrain.

Wow...I want one. Why the heck don't they offer that in the USA? Don't want to cannibalize Prius sales I suppose...

I still have that issue of National Lampoon. I grabbed it just before they took it off the newsstands.

Toyota should have gone with the NS4.

No, I don't. But then again, I don't really set out to buy an ugly one either. In today's world, the fact that so many automakers designers are not original, does not mean someone different can't do a good looking car. The Gremlin was Polarizing, and also, vey ugly.Having a car Stand Out could mean gorgeous, sexy, generally not ugly.

Being the only midsize hatchback available in the US made Prius incredibly practical.

People explained that popularity by claiming the actual reason for purchase wss to make a "green" statement.

They didn't want to accept change. How is this any different?

Those "people" repeated that nonsense until Tesla shut them up on the street.

Aw, c'mon! That was at least ten seconds ago!!! :ROFLMAO:

But didn't they achieve the Gen 4 Prius design via wind tunnel for minimal drag? (n)

They likely adjusted their existing design vision adding all those little fins to adjust the aerodynamics.

Roof shape can't be adjusted as fins are...

In redesigning the Prius, Toyota has moved the peak of the roof forward by 170 mm and lowered the car's maximum height by 20 mm. The result is a distinctive outline that instills the next-generation halo eco-car with a unique presence while also being functional in ensuring ample head clearance for occupants and helping to achieve an exceptional drag coefficient of 0.24.

I believe the fins are called vortex generators.

Vortex generators come from the aviation industry, mostly found on the upper side of the wing to increase lift.

I'd love to know the drag CD difference between the Toyota auris, the NS4 & the Prius.

I believe @krmcg discussed this earlier and added some to his Prius, mainly for appearance though.
