Actually, the service person for Northern California disagrees. Neither kit is available, he suggested that there was one kit to order now as opposed to two -- hence my question for clarification. The date he provided me was June, noting that a kit for a competing service would likely be available first.

Thanks for the update. Now, I'm totally confused since Toyota is telling their dealers different comments regarding the availability of the XM radio.

I would welcome a straight answer from Toyota for a change!

My dealer just ordered the tuner and mounting kit today.

We'll see how long it actually takes to arrive. Remember, Toyota first announced the XM option last fall for a March release. It's now 2 months overdue!

Dealer says warehouse has released XM radios for the Prius as of today, May 22 and they can now be ordered for customers. :)
They quote $199 for the tuner and $100 for the mounting kit. $200 for the installation.

After double-checking to see if my XM parts were in, I called service and they offered same-day service if I would bring in my Prius within 1/2-hour or so.

The car should be ready by this afternoon. I'll follow-up with a report later today.

Car is at the dealer right now for the XM install. I took them a copy of the Prius ebrochure accessories page showing a $449 price for the radio installed and they honored that price.

Uh oh, there's going to be a delay. :(

Dealer reports a small accident when working on the car (probably while trying to figure out why the emergency brake light won't go out). Now they've sent it to body shop to have bottom corner of driver's door restored and repainted.

Appropriate apologies have been made and a loaner Matrix offered, but my XM enhanced Prius won't be ready until Friday.

My Prius XM was finally installed today with no complications (so far!).

The antenna was mounted on the upper right-hand corner of the dash by the front window.

Total for the install was $499 broken down as follows: $199 (XM tuner), $100 (mounting kit), and $200 (labor). The dealer originally wante to charge me $315 for the labor, but I asked them to match Toyota's estimate of $200 which they finally did.

Is this a special tuner or basically an XM Direct?

I'm not sure which it is. It is just the XM add on to the existing radio that gives you XM service on the SAT bands on the radio.

    Hope this helps!

I also got mine installed today. I will post photos in the morning. It shows 16 characters in each line of the display (artist and song). It is also on the front right side of the dash.

What's the latest update to this thread?

I'm not yet an owner, but plopped down a deposit. I am head-over-heels for the Prius. It's so versitile and perfect!

I would highy be interested in installing an XM radio, but the Eddie Bell instructions looked a little more invasive than I'd prefer.
I realize I'd have to open up the front to enable the touch-screen functionality, but I don't want a cable running to the back outside.

Anybody had any luck w/ an "under the glass" installation?

It's finished. Works great, sounds great. The lump on the dash is the antenna. Toyota should have come up with a far more elegant solution than this.

Anyone had an installation at the right top of the windshield? I guess it might look a little less out of place than on the dash, but so far the reception has been pretty awful- it keeps dropping signal. Never had any problems with the old "Good Guys" installation in my old Mazda. Seems like Toyota has some work to do on this install issue.
