I wonder if the FE number is extrapolated from the Japanese test cycle?

no, it is EU Cycle... Prius c is 79g/100km CO2 and this is 49g, so 37% extra compared to Prius c and same size.

Probably similar power to weight ratio, as this is very light vehicle.

well, lets not calculate PHEV mpg like they do, to me thats misleading.
Prius Phev gets 87g/100km CO2 and this gets 49g...

Pretty nice for low cost system. I dont think lower than this is realistically possible.

According to this, Prius PHV is 49 g/km. My guess is, it does not include CO2 from electricity. So, 87 g/km includes electricity?

87g/100km is when it is running in pure hybrid mode, like normal prius (and btw, it is better 5% than normal prius in europe).

49g/100km is when it is running EU cycle with full battery pack. Unfortunately EU doesnt have any other way for them to show mileage for PHEVs.

I think it would be much easier if they show 3 numbers:
    - Kilometers in EV mode when battery pack full
    - kwh/100km in EV mode
    - l/100km in Hybrid mode

But EU currently has no special cycle for PHEVs.

    100+ mpg ... light ... inexpensive ...
I got a feeling the GM exec's just soiled their selves.

Only why is it that the concept cars always look like a fish bowl (way too much glass / hot sun burning down on you) ... some of Toyota's disigners must have owned plexiglass salt water aquariums as kids.

Doesn't matter what the concept looks like, take the C concept vs. what the C is, by that we can determine that this will look like a small Prius.

if it's a city car, 25-45 mph, why bother with the aerodynamics?

I see more than a little Mercedes box fish in the design:

While the FT-Bh may look a little weird – we're reminded of how odd
the Prius looked before we'd gotten used to the shape – this may well
be what the next generation of hybrids will look like. While Toyota has
thrown out some branding buzzwords to describe the FT-Bh's "Ecomotion"
theme (or is that "Under Priority" design language? or "Keen Look"
styling?) the bottom line is that it's all about aerodynamics. This is why
the FT-Bh uses cameras rather than side-view mirrors and doesn't have
door handles. It's also why the front end has those "air curtain" intakes
and there's an underfloor spoiler in the rear.

Minimalist Toyota FT-Bh Concept boasts 112 miles per gallon

Although it is not so readily apparent, I can also see some resemblance
in the front end treatment to the third iteration of the VW X1L, ~235 MPG,
set for limited production in 2013:

I suppose that' could be called "design convergence" as opposed to
    "copy cat."

The XL1 uses plug-in diesel hybrid powertrain, with a 2-cylinder TDI
motor with 48-hp, mated to a 27-hp electric motor and using a 7-speed
dual clutch gearbox. Volkswagen says that due to the plug-in hybrid
setup, the power contained in the lithium-ion battery pack can propel
the car 35 km (roughly 22 miles) emissions free.

Yea, nature dictates what is aerodynamic or not. Everything that nature design is beautiful.
