Just traded my 2007 Hybrid Camry with 129k miles on it. It was never in the shop for anything but routine maintenance. I know there are more amazing success stories, but my first Toyota really did a great job for me. I hope to get the same reliability out of my 2012 Prius IV. Got 56.9 mpg on my first trip to work this morning, 45 miles. About 85 percent of the trip is highway miles. I'm very happy with that. By the way, I got it though AAA car buying service and was very pleased with that experience, too.

Congratulations on the new ride, hope it serves you as well as your Camry did. :) BTW you can subtract about 5% from your mileage, Toyota decided to include an error in the Gen3 consumption reading.

Thanks for the tip on the AAA buying service.

My last Toyota was a 2000 4Runner that I put 305,000 miles. Over the 10 years I had the SUV I spent less than $1,000 including brakes.

My 2010 Prius has 84,000 miles and zero repairs. I predict you will see the same with your 2012. I wish more people that wasted money on extended warranties would read about our experience owning a Toyota.

Our error over 18 months of ownership is 7~8%. And I'd concur it is likely due to a "decision" by Toyota.

Yep, Toyota's are reliable. Congrats on your new car purchase, may it equal or exceed the satisfaction of the camry u had:).

I've read somewhere that the difference no longer was present in MY12 units. Can someone confirm that?

I'd have thought by now that someone would have figured out a hack into the consumption processor to correct for that error in earlier G3s.

I have an '85 Hi Ace van that has 600000kms (372823 mile) on it and still going strong with the original motor. I also own a 87 camry with approx 400,000kms. I still paid for extended warranty as a precaution. My prius has had the injectors fail and replaced under warranty at 20,000kms (I think). You can never predict Murphy's law.
