Toyota to roll out Vitz-based hybrid, possibly by Dec 2011

    As others have pointed out the performance gain is minimal for an HEV. Note that the PHEVrius will use lithium for the P bank.

    I'm sure they'll switch once lithium costs come down and reliability is proven but there's no rush given the huge lead they have.

    It's possible. The plug-in Prius has no spare but rather some tire repair goo and an air compressor. This is evidence that Toyota's not married to lugging around a spare tire.
