Why would Toyota increase their discount ("incentive")?
I've been checking Prime prices in the ZEV (zero emission vehicle) state of NY.
In June Toyota's discount was $2500.
    In July it's now $3500!!!

they aren't selling well in the northeast. $3,150. here, odd number.(n)

i wouldn't be surprised if more sales have gone to the other40 states than local.

It's not just a Toyota thing, or even a cheap gas thing.
The market is flooded to the rafters with people driving new cars, and we've reached a saturation point.

Even sub-prime drivers...and Prime drivers would say that driving anything else would be...................(wait for it!).................'sub-Prime'.
Anyway they are either under water on marginal leases or already driving new cars that they can barely afford.

Also...cars are just plain old lasting longer, so the used car market is also being flooded with lease returns both private and corporate.

So.......even as cheap as a new Prime can be with the $3,000 discount, and the federal tax kickback, and even state cheese in some cases, some people are just not buying.

I've never been what you would call a yuuge fan of the G4's looks, but if I were buying a new car right now????
A base model Prime would be hard to pass up.....for ME.

But then.......I said that in 2015 when the last of the G3's were going for well under $20,000, and I actually didn't MIND the way that car looked.
    Two years later.....same story.
The point is........my youngest vehicle is a 2012 crossover (CFO car) followed by a 2009 and a 2006 as a spare.
    Why trade out?
Especially when there are silly things like houses and retirement to spend money on.

all true, but this is strictly a regional sales thing. why they expected them to sell better around here, idk. it's all to do with carb and unfathomable to me.
i do know that it doesn't help them to sell in non carb states, but it does help if people travel from one, buy it here, and take it home.

A lot of it has to do with how much you use and live in your car. I'm in my Prime (har, har) 3-6 hours/day, and the car had better be nice for this old fart. Of course, I know people who carefully maintain their cars as pig styes!! Burger wrappers, half filled cups everywhere, old food on the seats & floor, stained carpets!! They don't care what they drive, or the "condition". I could never be that kind of a slob! Different strokes for different folks!

Do people think that these incentives will continue into August? In June it was $2500, July is $3500... any predictions for August? The local dealer says "act now, it expires July 31st" ...

I am so jealous. I live in TX and picked my Prime after freaking more than five months of waiting! What incentives? This greedy Gulf State (5 South Central States) Dealers don't have any incentives.

Same here where a former so-called governor has since become a current so-called VP...

...much like Texas (and, alas, WAY too many other states) there are ZERO state-related incentives here in Indiana. (Not even any HOV lane stuff... not that IN has many such lanes anyway!)

They're only posted month to month. I'm tempted to wait until September to see what changes the 2018 model will bring. But....but....will the discount still be offered? Only the higher-ups in Japan know for sure.

Well then, I am very glad that I am now definitely not in the class of Sub-Prime Drivers. I was just over a week ago, and my wife, with her CT200, is still considered Sub-Prime. I feel much better now. :D

And, it's getting close to the end of the model-year. Gott'a sell the 2017 models for less than the 2018 models.

I bet you patient chaps will still see incentives in 2018, as long as gas remains cheap!

So the 2018 model of the Prime will be announced in Sep? does anyone predict or any changes - the thinking is that since this is an all new model this year, there would be no real changes until 2019?

i would be surprised to see changes, considering they can't keep up with demand.

Toyota probably could do a better balancing act with their allocation system. They need to sell every single Calif. Spec car, here in California and the other CARB, ZEV states, but shouldn't overbalance the allocations as much to the detriment of the Midwest, and other regions. You kids need your Primes too!!

So if 2018 Prime will be identical to 2017 model... would it mean that those who haven't bought their Prime yet would get the best discounts, if purchasing a 2017 model, just as the 2018 is about to go on sale... you're getting the same car at a good discount, as dealers want to get rid of their 2017 stock?

It's just aget the credit before its reduced.

My guess is Toyo has strict regional goals to maximize zev credits
