It's tough in the 'States, fighting to maintain a solution that outweighs the problem, ie: low tire pressure. Don't envy your plight.

When I get our tires replaced, considering the aging TPMS batteries in our Aug 09 build-date Prius: I'm probably just going to get regular valves. It's legal up here.

Tires are probably one of the most uncared for parts on a car here, so legislation had to try to do something about it I guess....

I had thought TPMS is unnecessary and TREAD Act is more of problem for consumers than the solution. That was until my recent experience with a rental car on my trip. During my recent trip, I picked up Nissan Maxima at rental place. As I drove off the lot, it had no problem, but less than 15 miles driving it, the TPMS indicator flashed showing low tire presser on right rear. I pulled over to the nearest gas station and looked at the tire. It looked OK, but upon closer examination, I found a screw pierced into the tread. I think the screw was already in the tire when I picked the car up. In any case, a quick return to the rental shop, they exchanged it with a new car. Certainly, I don't usually carry tire pressure gauge with me when traveling without my own car. Had the car not equipped with TPMS, I would have driven 100 of miles with low pressure with eventual flat tire at middle of nowhere.

Toyota never seems to go out of their way to make TPMS "friendlier" though, ie: make new sensors identifiable via a few button pushes on the dash. I do not know, I'm just debating the concept, you guys are trying to sort out the nuts and bolts of making it work. I'll bow out, sorry for the topic drift.

You noted $149. I just thought I'd post a cheaper price lest you pay more.

Although my link is not working. Sorry about that!

It's on Amazon sold by another seller but serviced/shipped by Amazon.
