Traction Battery Dies in 2009 Prius Pkg 4

When you say you do regenerative braking on the downhills, you don't mean B mode do you? 'Cause that'll throw away a bunch of energy.

This explains the SOC of the battery and makes a lot of sense on how it is trying to "make-up" for the ICE. I am still confused with the whole 45 MPH limit thing the OP is experiencing and the high rev/low rev alternating engine he describes.

What does SOC have to do with limiting your engine speed?

I would think as you put the accelerator to the floor and dump gas into it it would go faster and faster. Or is there some kind of "limiting" throttle body function tied in with the SOC? That seems like that is something that could be danagerous in certain situations.

Beautiful pictures of the trip by the way. My wife is at her photography class now and would be quite jealous.
