Ray the eagle has another method, it’s quick, super safe and elevates car higher. I’m gonna be borrowing another one of of his great ideas.

Once every 18 months, I'll deal with it.

Well, got a quart of the Toyota WS, and the washer/gasket, at the stealership which I pass just about every day. Only $ 9.xx for the WS -- less than I feared.

Having just one quart, I gather this is to just check the level. I would hold off opening that bottle, definitely just check it first. Once the bottle is open it should be used right away, or discarded. It doesn't "keep" well, tends to absorb moisture.

Remove the top bolt (with the car level), feel with a finger. If you can splishsplash the fluid, it's good. I'd wager it will be.

If you are going to go through the work of jacking it up to "check" the level, you might as well change it.
For less than $30, it's worth it. Then you KNOW it's been change and will be level.

I'm planning to ask to speak ahead of time to the mechanic whos's going to do the job and ask him if he knows what happens to a Prius if the driver's door is opened while a caliper is off. And I'm taking SylGlide in addition to the ATF WS and the washer/gasket.

In your shoes, I think I'd just take it to a dealership. Those rear brakes in particular, are easy to mess up.

True, but if you do it on a suitable hill, with the rear higher up the hill and the front on ramps, the car ends up close enough to level. That is how I do it.
