Trends in Car Theft

    I think that's right...also the wheels are locked on and it takes 54-steps by eLearnaid just to get the 12v batt out.

    A Prius battery pack unbolts pretty easily, weighs less than 100 pounds, and it's very clean (no grease or oils). I'm not a car thief, but unbolting the battery and driving off with it could be profitable, probably $1,000 a unit. It's a lot easier than pulling an engine or transmission.

    But the batteries are guaranteed to 160,000 miles and often last longer, so I doubt there will be a big enough market to make it profitable for the thieves.

    Most of us Miata owners have one of the best anti-theft devices: a Manual Transmission!:D

    These cars have the door and ignition locks master keyed, so if you know how to cut the master key, any of these cars can be yours. I know because I have repaired these locks and know how they are keyed.
