I have a 2007 Prius. I was driving and all the warning lights came on. When I parked the car, turned it off and then tried to turn it back on, the lights remained on and the car would not go into drive or reverse and the engine would not start.

The mechanic told me it was the 12V battery so I bought a new one and all seemed fine. I drove the car for an hour and then the same thing happened again.

The bottom picture below has a warning light of a red car with an exclamation mark. I don't know what that means.

Has anyone had this issue and hopefully found a resolution?

    Thanks! IMG_7008.jpeg IMG_7007.jpeg

    welcome!

    how many miles on her?

when you changed the 12v, you reset the trouble codes, and the car is able to be driven until they detect the problem again.
you will probably have to have a dealer read them with the proper diagnostic software. but first, open the inverter fluid reservoir and see if there is any movement in the fluid.

I just had the same thing happen. I replaced the inverter coolant pump about four months ago and the whole battery about a month ago. Not sure what else it could be. I have 160k miles.

I did the DIY test procedure for the 12v battery. It showed 11.9 when I first pushed the button and went to 12v. Then when II pushed the power button again, it stayed at 12V. I could not go to ready mode, due to all the lights on. Should I replace the battery first?

So I disconnected the battery for about 5 minutes and reconnected. All issues went away and it started up. checked battery voltage while running and it is 14.5V. Should I replace the battery??

The mechanic came and he founded the problem and he will be fixing it tomorrow. He said that the problem was the accelerator position sensor failure. The code is P1121. If you best49erfan is having the same problem as I. You shoud check it too. Will let you know how it goes tomorrow. Thanks.

if it's only a year old, i would try recharging it before replacing (ctek automatic charger/maintainer). 14.5 is the inverter, not the battery. you need a voltmeter, and test it at the jump point under the hood, after it has been off for 8 hours.

Replacing the 12 volt battery probably wasn't a bad idea just as an act of maintenance.
But I'm guessing it was never the problem and when the 12 volt was disconnected and then reconnected in replacement it just temporarily reset the codes, that were manifesting because of the real problem.

I don't know who "The Mechanic" is...
But reading the codes the first time would of saved some time.

    Hope the issue is resolved.

I will see if the issue reappears, but my 12 battery voltage was low so I replaced it anyway. We shall See. It would be nice if the Screen would show some of the issues instead of requiring a code reader.

I thought the same thing. He didn't even try to read the code the first time and I paid $516.00 and today he will come back to fix the the problem and I'll be paying another $500.00. So frustrated!

Well, he fixed the car and minutes later the promblen came back. He spent 2 hours figuring out the problem, but he couldn't find it. So, $1000 in the toilet. He thinks that could be the main baterry. I'll take my car to the dealer I brought it from and go from there. Thank you all for your help.

sorry to hear it :( it's hard enough finding a decent non dealer hybrid tech, never mind a mobile one.

Sorry to hear of the problems, but thank you for sharing as a waring to others.

p1121 is usually the 3-way coolant flow control valve.
Although some scanners (like torque pro) have is incorrectly crossreferenced/labled as accelerator position in the error description.

For under $75 you could have your own diagnostic code reader than also shows Hybrid battery and other data.
May be helpful for owners of an older prius
    - Elm 327 Bluetooth OBDII adaptor ($20-$40)
    - Torque Pro app (~$6)
Download on an android/phone tablet. Connect via bluetooth.

Please report back what your dealer finds.
