What does that symbol mean? It's done this once before. A triangle with an exclamation point in the middle. And check engine symbol too. I have a 2006 Prius. When it happened before I read I might need a 12v battery. Took it to a battery store and the guy unplugged that one and tested it, it was better than he thought. So now what?

    Could be many things.
There was no additional message on the display?
I think a trip to dealer/mechanic to read the diagnostic codes would be my next step.
Or if you are technical enough pick up a ODBII dongle and read the diagnostic codes.
Being 13 a years old car I'd be leaning towards something like an O2 sensor etc.
Oh, one more thing check your gas cap. Make sure it's tight. Seriously.

The alarm pretty much means, "I have a serious problem." It could be hundreds of different things. As @schja01 said, you need to have it scanned for codes. Some parts stores have Prius literate code readers, but most do not. Most convenient might be the Carista phone app and their OBDII adapter.

Did it flash on when you hit the brakes or did it come on and stay on? If it just flashed on I would check my oil level before I drove one foot.

Put oil in it and it's still on. And no it didn't flash at all, just came on going up a hill.
