If the ground wire is located next to the largest tab on the base, that is an H11a bulb, and the ground wire is causing the ground shadow.

The H11b bulb has the ground wire located opposite from the largest tab on the base, so that the ground wire ends up at the bottom of the bulb after it's locked into position, where the light isn't projected out.

Looks like you received H11a type bulbs.

There is a wire down the side of the bulb. Hence the reason TRS sells H11A and H11B bulbs. Has to do with the position they are in after being installed.

    I bought h11b bulbs. Not h11a.

Yes, definitely an H11a bulb. An H11b bulb has the ground wire on the opposite side, between the other two tabs.

No worries. They can be easily exchanged. Plus I'll ask for a credit for the error. :)

Make sure you get and use the HD dual relay HID harness too.

What if one of the sockets are loose and I can move it up and down after it snaps in? One side is tight one side isn't.

You might have to remove it, flip it around 180 degrees, the reinsert it. If you look inside the plastic connector shell, you'll see a small tab on one side that engages the metal terminal to lock it in. The terminal is installed with the "open" side facing to the locking tab side of the connector,so the locking tab can engage the terminal to lock it in when it is inserted.

This post pretty much covers it:

What did you do to ur Gen III Prius today???? | Page 469 | PriusChat

The terminal referenced is one of the two shown here in my fuse box with the two red wires going to them:

Alternatively, you can use the bolt shown under the open cover, with the small screwdriver pointing to it (to the right of the heavy white wire). You can put a ring terminal under that bolt.

I'm starting to get the feeling that the poor service and so so quality of what TRS is sending me just isn't meant to be.

The Morimoto HID kits are known to be high quality.

If you had installed the original set using the HID relay harness, you may never have had any of the non start problems of the HID bulbs.

At startup, the ballasts/igniters require a lot of extra current. Your oem headlight wiring wasn't designed to handle these high current demands and wasn't able to satisfy this at 100% reliability. Just because most people have not used a relay harness and have no issues, doesn't mean that the product was at fault.

Receiving the wrong type of H11 bulbs though, well that's a different story...

I have a question I tried to install this kit but....... where does this go? I know it says battery, but isn't the 12v battery in the trunk?

It is in the trunk. But you can ground it to the body under the hood

To clarify, you can put that ring terminal under any bolt that attaches to the steel body structure. The negative terminal on the battery is "grounded" to the body structure, so any point on the body structure then serves as ground, or negative, in a circuit.

I had the same problem with the Morimoto kit from TRS - turned out to be a bad igniter. They replaced it promptly, and it works fine now.
