    I'm looking for clear instructions on how to turn off the feature where the doors automatically unlock when the car is placed in Park. I want to control when I unlock the doors.

    If it's not in the settings menu then use techstream.

    It should be in Settings, then Vehicle. There's a list of lock/unlock options that you turn on/off and save.

    Hi - thanks - it's not in the settings menu. Does anyone know another procedure to follow?

    As mentioned above, techstream. Or ask your dealer to change the setting at your next service visit.

    I agree. The frequent automatic locking and unlocking seems just a lot of unnecessary noise and wear on the lock-unlock mechanism.

    I noticed my rear passenger actuator makes whining noise when unlocking.

    I don't think the 2008 Prius had automatic door locks. It was a new feature for the Gen 3 (2010+). If yours has it, it's an aftermarket unit.

    Here's the Gen 3's method:

    Setting and cancelling the functions
    To switch between setting and cancelling, follow the procedure
    below:

    1. Close all the doors and switch the “POWER” switch to ON mode. (Perform Step 2 within 20 seconds.)
    2. Shift the shift lever to “N” or press “P” position switch, and press and hold the driver’s door lock switch ( upload_2015-8-19_21-28-42.png or upload_2015-8-19_21-28-59.png ) for about 5 seconds then release.
    The shift and switch positions corresponding to the desired function to be set are shown as follows. Use the same procedure to cancel the function.

    When the setting or cancelling operation is complete, all doors are locked and then unlocked.

    Is that in addition to the menu via the head unit? IIRC, it was available as a toggle option there as well.

    This is for the vehicles without the Display Audio System (2010-2011, with and without navigation). The DA units starting in 2012 included the customisation options in the Settings menu. I have no idea if it's in addition to those settings but feel free to try and report back to the rest of us!

    Thanks for posting that procedure. I thought I'd read the manual thoroughly a couple of times, but I somehow missed that important page. I tried to follow that routine to the letter, as far as I know, but haven't been able to make it work, so far. Any clue of some unstated step, or condition that must be met? I've tried it with various combinations of
    sitting in the passenger seat and in driver's seat;
    engine cold and engine fully warmed up;
    pressing the lock switch 5 seconds, 8 seconds, and 10 seconds;
    READY mode and ON-but-not-READY (i.e., foot not on brake) mode;
    releasing the PARK button before pressing the lock switch, and holding PARK for the full 5+ seconds;
    closing the door immediately before starting the procedure, or not.

    None of that made any difference. What next?

    Thanks, but I was asking specifically for tips about the method of stopping automatic door-locking that's supposedly described in the owners manual. It didn't work for me, so either I'm missing something, or the manual is wrong.

    I already used a ScanGauge to suppress the ridiculous reverse beeping. There are several other annoying preference settings that need to change, so I still need to track down a suitable laptop and VCI, etc.

    Auto locking and unlocking of the doors, changing the setting. The way to change the setting in the owners manual will not work on my Gen 3 Prius. I found it online, simple, start the car, POWER ON, READY. Multi function screen, button on the right, SETUP, then VEHICLE.
    You can use the touch screen to turn on or off what you want. Auto locking when putting it in gear, auto unlocking when putting in park.
    Auto locking when you go faster than 15MPH. Driving lights on or off. Locking or unlocking all doors with the drivers doors.

    The reason why I turned off the auto unlocking when in park is, when in the drive thru line or at the ATM I want to keep my doors locked.
    They still unlock and open when the inside handle is used or the unlock button is pressed.

    The procedure is correct. IIRC, car should be in ON-but-not-READY mode. And the success indication is the last sentence:
    "When the setting or cancelling operation is complete, all doors are locked and then unlocked."

    If you don't hear this after step 2, then the setting didn't succeed.
