Where is Hobbit when I need him?

He's the master of all outlaw fixes on the Prius. I remember he removed the snorkel permanently, just because it spit at him....

Anyway, I've changed the oil in my car some 20 times and that stupid Maint. Req. light is still a PIA to shut off. I never get it right the first two or three tries.

Hey, any method to turn it off -- permanently????

I changed my oil two weeks ago and still have not got up the energy to shut off the light -- but if there is a way to do it forever.....???

The hard way would be to remove the led from the display. The easy way would be to cover the light with electrical tape. :D

It's not just the "hold down these two things while you thing" like in third gen?

Oh, I don't remember the steps, although I have them written down on the inside back cover of the owner's manual, but my manual is saturated with mouse pee, it is hard to read, the ink is stained yellow and it has run....

don't get me wrong. It is NOT that difficult, but I never seem to get it right until the third or fourth try. Be easier without the warning light.

I am capable of knowing when the oil needs to be changed.

Sort of like those really stupid Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems. I don't trust them, so I still check my tire pressures myself on a regular basis. I don't need an expensive TPMS system.

1Turn on car, make sure car odometer mileage is showing.
    2 Turn off car.
    3. While pressing the odo/trip button, start the car. You'll see the maintenance meter reset in about 5 seconds[IMG]

You are missing something about having your foot on the brake. Having it on, or not on, at the right time is crucial.

Again, I do have it written down in ink and mouse pee, but I guess you could call it distracted "maintenance," holding the book, and pressing buttons and stomping on foot pedals, all while trying to balance a can of hops and barley on your lap -- pure misery.

Steps are the same for gen3, just it has to be on trip A on the odometer.

Canadian Prius don't have that, thank God. Two other cars I change oil on both have a reset requirement, both are a pain. I suspect it's just mandatory, to have to do it 3 or 4 times before it finally takes. :cautious:

Just FYI, on Gen 4, there is a menu item on the MID (Multi Information Display) beside the speedometer to reset the maintenance light.
Resetting a maintenance light is a poor excuse to upgrade to a Gen 4 though.

Strange, but I thought I saw it in the Owner's Manual for our '12 v, in the printed section.

    On the '14 iQ:

Engine running set to TRIP A
    Turn ignition to LOCK
While holding the MODE button down, turn ignition to ON without starting the engine. Keep holding MODE until trip meter says "000000".

Note your odometer reading and current trip reading before jumping in, if you care. Odo is where it's at, for bullet proof mileage recording.

it doesn't usually happen, but the procedure is so poorly written and painstaking, i think i had a senior moment.
