generally, interstates are more than two lanes. 3 lanes, i'm in the middle. 4 lanes i'm second from right.

seems cops are more interested in congestion than reckless driving.

On our Barnet highway, two lanes each way, mornings and evenings on weekdays, the right lane is designated High Occupancy Vehicle only (at least two people in the car). Traffic is usually not that heavy, and what ends up happening is most cars are single occupant, in the left lane, an uneasy mix of law-abiders and speeders.

I also drive on a middle lane in 3 lanes highway especially if I am driving somewhere I don't know the way around. It is far easier to get off when exit happens either right or left. Our interstates are usually only two lanes. Question is which lane do you drive? Right or Left???:D

There was a time when I used the same driving style, but I have come to see it as too disengaged, selfish and unprofessional. If you aren't passing the traffic to your right, you need to move rightwards yourself.

I also recognize that there are always exceptions for momentary conditions, so mostly it's about staying involved and active.

Causing congestion through overly passive driving may not qualify as reckless, but possibly reckless jr.

I try to stay right as much as possible. If I have to be in the left lane, say for an upcoming left turn, I'll delay getting left as long as practical. Sometimes longer than I'm comfortable with, to appease the territorial left laners as much as possible.

Generally, only in urban areas. The great majority of the Interstate highways I travel are rural with just two lanes each direction.

Then there is the Canadian equivalent, Highway 1, the Trans-Canada Highway. Two significant sections in BC are still single lane, though one of them does now have construction signs up for expansion to two lanes.

We went up to Belcarra park last week end, The last leg is a windy road, 30 km speed limit, lots of blind corners, iffy shoulders. I noticed I had a bit of a train by the time we got to one junction where the road widened. I pulled over for a sec, by they all went.

I call 'em "swifties" in reference to the mechanical pacer at the old dog racing track near Boston. Mechanical and unfeeling, no regard for anyone else on the road, just riding that left side rail.
