    'Twere a dull old world, methinks, my friend,
    If we all went just one way;
    Yet our paths will meet no doubt at the end,
    Though they lead apart today.

    You like the shade and I like the sun;
    You like an even pace.
    I like to mix with the crowd and run,
    And then rest after the race.

    I like the danger and storm and strife;
    You like a peaceful time.
    I like the passion and surge of life,
    You like its gentle rhyme.

    Your path is the right one, and so is mine;
    We're not like peas in a pod.
    Compelled to lie in a certain line
    Or else be scattered abroad.

    I must live my life, not yours, my friend,
    For so it is written down.
    We must follow our given paths to the end,
    But I trust we shall meet in town.

    Here's to hoping that we can put aside our individuality for a moment, pull together, and even make a few sacrifices in order to help our country out of this mess. Wouldn't it be nice if we could stop looking inward at each other, and instead all look outward, in the same direction? (with apologies for the latter to Antoine de Saint Exupery).

    A noble gesture, Natalie. Your country's politics do seem to be increasingly polarised and inward-looking. (Not that mine are perfect by any means.) Seeing yourself as others see you can be very revealing and educational. But, it's been my experience that people are seldom willing to accept others' points of view - it's usually seen as unwarranted criticism. Poetry aside, I'm not so sure the figurative paths we're on have the same destination. Not that it should keep you from trying.
