    Now we're going way back beyond Deacon's masterpiece! That was published in The Atlantic in 1858. Other than a few less-familiar words, it's pretty familiar modern English:

    Of course Holmes uses some goofy spellings for the way the Deacon sounds;

    I have never gotten more than a ‘C’ in English but I was able to visit the Library of Congress and get a copy of Elizabeth ‘The Lords Prayer,’ My term paper gave me a much better grade than I deserved.
