I'm looking to buy a used Prius Prime and kind of amazed at the amount the used 2017 Advanced models have declined and the length they've stayed on the market. I'm assuming a few things, that these are the blue book prices (did not check), this car isn't for everyone (still?), and that the market is glutted with Primes and the demand is now mostly fulfilled. I'm actually finding the most on AutoTempest. Ok, maybe it's just a midwest thing. I'm in Milwaukee. Fill me with your perspective. Thanks!

    Glutted?
I live in Chicagoland (not far from Milwaukee) and I have yet to see a Prime in the wild.
Reminds me of when I purchased my Gen 2 in ‘04. It was 2 years before they were everywhere.

    welcome!
without any data, it is hard to comment. not seeing any deals around here.
keep in mind, many 2017's were purchased at almost 10k off in the northeast. through in another 5k in tax credits, and you've got yourself a brand spanking new prime advanced for 20k.
what are they asking on the used market?

I've not seen any. Keep in mind that a Prime is going to depreciate $4,500 as soon as you take possession of it, even if you haven't driven it a single mile, since even if someone immediately bought it from you, they wouldn't get the tax credit. Plus right now a Prime (in many areas of the US at least) have a $1500 cash back offer, so immediately, a resale should be worth $6000 less than one sitting on the dealer's lot.

What will battery replacement cost be for a Prime? Will it be worth less than a standard Prius when it comes to replacing the what I assume is a very expensive battery?

possibly, but at least you have 8/100, and they have to design for 10/150.
pip is 6 years old, and we haven't seen any out of warranty battery replacements yet.

i imagine there are a few in salvage, and apparently, li-on doesn't mind sitting, as long as it isn't full.

The biggest thing is people will blow through the mileage of the battery warranty.

Which is crazy. Right now NO used Prime, even with just 1 mile driven off the lot, should sell for one penny more than $6,000 less than what the same vehicle costs from a dealer. A Prime which sells for $30K on the dealer's lot should never sell for $24,000 or more, because of the tax credits and current cash incentives Toyota is offering. Though I suppose there *could* be a shortage of them on dealer lots in some areas, I don't know, but it's certainly not the case here in northwest Oregon.

in the o/p's case, a good deal on a used 2017 might be 15 or 16k.

Some stations in NY (maybe others on the East Coast) are gouging in the $4/gal neighborhood.

As with all things it's a matter of supply and demand.
If you don't purchase a Prime from a dealer on either coast you're going to pay more.
I blame Toyota for this. Only recently has the Prime become mainstream nationwide.

North East Coast, not South east coast, as far as I know, there's only one other prime in my area, you have to special order them as Southeast Toyota wont stock them for the dealers. That other Prime looks exactly like mine. :)

$21000 on up, odd part is they were actually cheaper used about 6 months ago

And to be honest, they are holding values very well, many plug ins drop to about $16,000 as soon as they leave the lot.
