    Ok then, this is truly trivial, but I challenge someone to answer without the use of a calculator (it could be worked out on paper, but if you know the answer, it's easy ;)):

    How many bits are in a gigabyte? Please phrase the answer in hexadecimal notation.

    2^30 = (2^10) * (2^10) * (2^10)
    2^10 = 1024 or 1K
    2^30 = 1024 * 1024 * 1024

    1024 1048576 Sorry don't know how to control spacing.
    x1024 x1024
    ----- -----------
    4096 4 1 9 4 3 0 4
    2048 2 0 9 7 1 5 2
    0000 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
    1024 1 0 4 8 5 7 6
    -------- -----------
    1048576 1 0 7 3 7 4 1 8 2 4

    2^30 = 1,073,741,824 or 1 Gigibyte = 0010 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000

    I had to do the math. I didn't remember the value of a gigabyte. I only knew a kilobyte.

    You both have the same answer, and both of you are wrong-ish. First, you've both answered in bytes, not bits, and second, the answers have been in scientific, decimal and binary notation, not in hexadecimal so far! :)

    Just to avoid delay, I'll accept decimal or binary notation for a correct answer.

    Of the 50 states of the United States of America, which states represent the northernmost, southernmost, easternmost and westernmost states. Please no googling or map lookups.

    Uhhh....Alaska, Florida, Maine, and Hawaii?

    Hmm...on second thought, maybe Hawaii is further South than Florida, and Alaska further West than Hawaii.

    err... Texas and New Hampshire?

    p.s. 40000000 is also incorrect for the previous question. That is 1 gigabyte in bytes in hex notation. ;) To keep things moving I'll spare you all the suspense:

    1 gigabyte = 0x200000000 (8589934592) bits. 8 bits/byte, 1024 bytes/kilobyte, 1024 k/MB, 1024 MB/GB, 1024 GB/TB, on to peta- exa- zetta- and yotta- bytes! And personally I have 2.5 TB of data storage in my home... doesn't sound like much in those terms, does it? :)

    Neither, but you need to qualify which state goes with which direction in future posts so that I can respond to individual directions.

    duh! I finally got it. I was sloppy and totally misread the question. It was a good one. And I like math. I'll try to be more observant in the future.

    3 of the 4 are correct!

    I've got to give you credit. Your response is the generally accepted answers, but one is not the technically correct answer that I am looking for. Hopefully this response will lead you in the right direction.

    Is the concensus that you what to give up?
    Here's a vague but perhaps useful clue. The only person that I ever had answer the question correctly was stationed in there in the military.
    If no one posts the correct answer by the end of the day, I'll go ahead and post the answer.

    Are you asking for two separate points in Alaska, one West and the other North? You're not including places like Guam and the US Virgin Islands, are you?

    Answers do not include territories. All answers are U.S. States.
    O.K. this should help narrow it down. The three correct answers so far are:
    Alaska = northernmost
    Alaska = westrernmost
    Hawaii = soutrhernmost
    I know somebody's going to say "OH YEAH!, I knew that." when they read the answer.

    Is there some point in the Alaskan Aleutian islands that's so far West it counts as East?
