Proposed rule: No google or wikipedia (or the like) searches!
This would have to be honor-system, but random trivia questions/answers sort of lose their appeal when you have to look them up, and those of us with heads full of trivia love to unload a little of it sometimes! :)

Sigh! You're much to intelligent to just throw out names at random. Anybody can throw out names at random. (Henry VIII, Feodor Dostoevsky, Hatshepsut, Willie Mays.) Better to answer the questions you know the answer to, or at least those to which you think you might know the answer.

(And for the record I am quite certain the correct answer is not any of the people I've mentioned here, though records of Hatshepsut are incomplete enough that we don't know much of what she might have said, but the dignity of her office would have precluded her making a career of puns.)

(Hatshepsut, for those who are curious, was the only female king of Egypt. Egypt had several queens, including of course Cleopatra. But Hatshepsut, though a woman, and ruling as a woman, ruled as a king, not as a queen. A female king. She is considered to have been one of Egypt's better pharaohs. There's some trivia for you, without the need to google for it.)

    I second that rule.

If no one minds (or even if they do) I'll offer up a pretty obscure and utterly geeky trivia question that would be hard to Google for the answer:

Question: In the third season of Newsradio, Maura Tierney (the actor who played Lisa Miller) was sometimes required to wear "chicken cutlet" bra inserts to enhance her bustline. She once put them in and then asked Phil Hartman what he thought of them. According to Maura, Phil "really thought about it for a minute <...>" and then told her they made her look _____________?

Sorry. This seemed so unlikely that I checked Snopes, according to which it is

There is a lot more detail in the link.

No, no - nothing so quippish actually. :)

The answer is he thought they made her look "shorter".

I have heard both "for unlawful carnal knowledge" and "fornicate under command of the King" before and I thought both pretty dubious. I buy Daniel's response much more even though he looked it up on the interwebs. :)

As for the punster quote, I have no clue and, and I think it's about time we were given one... Maybe the google rule can be restricted to the first 24 hours of a post just to keep things moving.

Ichabod, I'm a bit confused by this - do you mean the pun quote I posted? If so, canesfan provided us with the correct answer (Samuel Johnson). I believe the floor is open to a new trivia question (if anyone would like to offer one up).

OK, daniel, this one's not a joke. What's the best way to wake up a penguin?

Step on it's foot (how to wake up a penguin).

What writer's last words were "Last words are for fools who haven't said enough?"

I didn't yell at you. I very quietly and respectfully suggested that it was bad form to digress to puns on a trivia thread.

As for waking up penguins, I know that the nicest way for me to wake up was when my (long dead and still very much missed) cat used to purr in my ear. So I'll say the best way to wake up a penguin is to hold a purring cat up to its ear.

I'm sure that stepping on its foot would not be regarded by the penguin as the "best" way to wake it up. Easiest, maybe. Best, surely not.

I'd have to agree. I wouldn't want to be awakened that way. Very rude. That's what I've always heard, though. I might not be right about that. It could just be a rumor. She didn't tell me I answered correctly, after all. I don't think the penguin would want a cat waking it up.

My cat is mad at me - still - after five days. Wish he'd get over it

You are correct about penguins. (otherwise they tend to fall over)
I've heard that those were Karl Marx's last words, although I wasn't there.
My favourite last words were Oscar Wilde's, which were something like "Either those drapes go, or I do."

My trivia question is why were the letters on the typewriter laied out in the way they were ? (i.e., QWERTY)

Its an easy one, I know...

To slow the typist, lest the arms of the keys get stuck together?

This is both a joke and a trivia question: Which is heavier - an ounce of feathers, or an ounce of gold?
