Very Odd Gas Mileage

    Was at a friend house tonight and he wanted to see under the hood of my Prius v.
    I popped the hood and he looked around and I shut the hood.
    Left, got on the Interstate and notice my mpg going up....46.6...... 46.9..... and thought that was odd as I usually get 42 43.....
    Stopped at Starbucks and noticed that my hood wasn't shut tight....the safety latch was on....
    Closed the hood tight left and mpg went back to normal.....
    Has this happened to anyone else.....

    I don't see how the hood not being latched all the way would affect mpg's but you may get better answers in the Prius v forums below.

    Just thinking ...
    A partially open hood would act as sort of an air scoop.
    If you already have a partially blocked air filter or other blocked air flow it might explain things.
