Doesn't the "Tire Repair Kit" ruin the tire? It is supposed to fill and seal the flat tire (as long as the damage is minor, like a nail or screw, but if it's a tear, I think you're out of luck with no spare at all). But doesn't the filler/sealer then require you to buy a new tire, rather than getting it patched? I imagine the sealer would be goop spread all over the inside of the tire, which would throw off the balancing and spoil the tire. Or can a shop clean it up and then apply a real patch?

Much as I hate a donut spare, I would think a donut would be better than a "tire repair kit." Thoughts?

If they use the goop type of "tyre repair", yes, you can't properly repair the tyre unless you can clean out the goop. I've seen tyre shops scraping it out. Not sure if it unbalances the tyre. Also not sure what it does to the TPMS sensor! I do know a proper tyre patch can -slightly- unbalance a tyre.

How often do you get a flat? I've had nails in Pearl's tyres with the pressure slowly dropping, but never a flat. Of course now I am tempting fate!
So for something that happens so rarely, is it worth the cost to carry a spare around all the time? Several manufacturers seem to think no.

yes. if it's anything like the pip repair kit, it ruins the tyre and tpms. many pip owners carry a plug kit, tools, a better jack, 12v compressor and a spare on the rear deck. a lot of stuff because you don't get a donut. or coffee.

manufacturers don't care if you're stuck in east horseshoe with no cell service. each owner should make this decision for themselves. some people save money for a rainy day, others live check to check. we're all different.

depends on the type. green tire slime is safe for tires and TPMS sensors. i used it many times for small leaks with no problems.

I don't think it's easy: there are different Styrofoam filler pieces under the hatch floor that also need to be swapped. And it raises the hatch floor approx. 4", so maybe that floor material would no longer fit, have to be replaced too.

hey mendel, look up at the table on page one, third from the bottom, to see 'white bone china accents' not available on two and two eco, standard above those.

    Yes it is very helpful!

One quibble: the 17" wheels have plastic "covers", well sorta, with the 5 plastic push-in pieces.

Thanks! Level 2 I could actually hold-my-nose-and-buy: has a spare, and no white trim. Just speaking hypothetically.

agree. i usually go with level two. i would think about the eco and throw in a spare, depending on what other changes it has. i could live without the rear wiper, can't see out the back anyway.

I think it would be expensive to retrofit the Toyota temp spare, say into 2 ECO level: Styrofoam filler pieces need to be swapped out, the hatch floor goes up about 4", and this might mean you also have to swap out the hatch floor, as it's raised it maybe won't fit properly?

I agree about the wiper, and rear visibility

So far, the early marketing seems to suggest Toyota is really pushing the exterior, interior refinement of the vehicle.
It's evolution the Prius DID need. Nearly colorless dash, questionable flying buttress design, and a whole dash design that seemed somewhat carved out of clay...left a lot of room for improvement.

Since I've never had a problem with the exterior looks of The Prius, I reserve judgement until I actually see one to determine just how much "better" looking I think this one is on the exterior.
And even though I think the Prius was ripe for interior redesign, I'll actually also wait until I can sit in one before passing ultimate judgement.

But so far the outward marketing of The Prius really seems centered around it's physical "social" refinement, more than it's Eco Warrior technology.

Trying to increase the customer base. All you eco hyper-milers were already happy with anything. ;)

The plastic aerodynamic wheel cover, similar to your Gen 2. (Well the Gen 2's 15" had a plastic ring and the 16" had full plastic covers)

I was thinking just a spare in a tire tote, left in the trunk lol.

    It's not centred. It's left aligned :)

You should tether it securely then, just in case.

I got a strap with some printed instructions, came with the car. It's for securing a regular tire, say if you had a flat and took it off.
