Well you may get a slight boost in efficiency then :) After all that sort of bike should cut through the wind better. Are you going to use them on the volt, or only the baja? I wonder if people get a hitch mount for the volt or use a hatch rack or what.

Seem most are going with hitch mounts
Finally got my bike rack installed on the TorkLift hitch: photos of rack and trike

Photos of Torklift Invisi Eco Hitch install

Has anyone actually installed he Curt Hitch?

I have a rack (used on our subaru) but have not yet gone for a mount yet; I just toss my mountain bike in the volt directly.

I wish I still had the Baja but I traded her in anyway the bikes will either go inside or on the hitch rack on the wife's truck

Crazy I was worried about the low clearance and hitch, didn't know they could put it at license plate height.

Interesting. When I charged the Ampera (EU 230V Schuko plug, 16°C in the 2nd floor of underground garage) this is what I got:

Charging on 240v is more efficient, My numbers were just for 120v charging.

Is 16A even more efficient than 10A, which mobile EVSE provides?

Probably just a little more efficient. Many of the losses are a function of time, so if it charges faster it will have less of those losses. Also they are doing both AC to DC conversion and a voltage shift (the batteries are 480v remember) so there is an added loss in 120v vs 240v.

My Analysis on the EVSE was cost.. the 120v was included and works fine for my daily needs. Spending 1K to 2K more was just not justified. I expect EVSE costs to come down and may just build one myself (with a team of students).

Agreed. The 16A wall unit costs around 450 EUR and I'm considering if I'd take it or not. On one hand, it doesn't justify the cost, on the other hand, in case I'd need the car charged quickly (after coming from work) it would be there. It's also more handy just to plug it in, when coming home, instead of taking the car's unit in and out every day.

OT: I found out today, that non-leather seats Ampera will be available only next year. Sigh... What to do...

Will you plug in at work? If not, then you can do like I do an mount the supplied charger ready to use

And then on the few days I need to use recharge on the road, I wrap it up and take it with me.

I'm still trying to get work to install one, maybe by having a team of student build an OpenEVSE with some new features.. then its a student project and maybe easier to get approved.

Thanx. I already could have a car's EVSE installed for non-mobile purpose, however that is not an option as I never know, when I'll have an option/need to recharge on the way. I was considering another mobile EVSE, bu as I said - the included EVSE is only 10A, which could sometimes be to slow for me and the price difference between the two of them isn't that big.
