I've heard that a lot. In fact a number of Irish people I know all said they'd pop over to buy a car in the UK and it makes me wonder how the Irish dealers make a living. Why do they charge so much more when a ferry is only £100 or so or you can just pop over the border to the North? I know your vat is more, but that can't account for it all. Just seems crazy, esp when the dealers need every sale they can get the way things are :(

This is the current product. I used it to do DSG fluid changes. It also came in real handy for other VW maintenance.

VW dealers have quoted the DSG service from being not necessary to up to $800. That's why I had Vag-Com and made the DSG fill tool myself.

I wouldn't bet on a fault of a HSD tranny if not changed.
It can fail, but much later, you just are ignoring its moving parts and how it works.
But if it makes you feel better, try not to change DSG oil and FILTER.

By the time the eCVT tranny needs replacing, it would most likely not be on Toyota's dime. And if it is way after warranty, then you might buy a cheaper used one than to replace the eCVT. So why does Toyota care?

Sure the tranny fluid will last the lifetime of the car. I wish my bank account would last my lifetime too without replenishing. :D

I do hope the DSG continues to improve. When it's working right, dual-clutch autos can be awesome.

Did you read that Kia are making a DSG? Is anyone concerned about the potential reliability of this?

Yes and no. Kia get a 7 year, unlimited mileage warranty in the UK, so that should reassure potential buyers.

Kia Car Warranty - Competitor Comparison Table | Kia Motors UK

Not sure what warranties are like in Australia but mileage limits of 100,000 miles (160,000 km) are not uncommon with limits of 5 years common place.

I believe warranties in the US are no where near that.

IIRC, Kia and Hyundai are still doing the 10yr/100k mile warranty in the US.

Ford uses a dual clutch transmission on the Fiesta and Focus. There were problems with early ones. Most seem to have been drivability concerns that were fixed with a software update.

Ah, they have down graded the warranty from back when they were trying to repair their poor reputation.

For the transmission discussion, it would fall under the 10yr/100k mile one though.
