By Abraham Lincoln's 1863 decree it was always the last Thursday of the month. FDR moved it forward on Novembers that had 5 Thursdays (for the benefit of the retailers).

I always thought that mask looked like Shakespeare might just as he's crimping off a particularly satisfying poo.

Yorkshire hero is ol' Guido. Comes from just down the road. The Anglican British establishment don't like upstart Northerners and certainly not Catholic ones at that.

Funny you should say that. During my recent trip to Britain, I went to Booth's (best supermarket in the whole world ever, but I'm not sure whether they have them in Yorkshire - they're big in Lancashire and Cumbria, and they make Waitrose look povvy) and Tesco and Sainsbury's and Poundland.

Poundland is brilliant. Tesco was nice enough, and so was Sainsbury's (the Safeway I worked in as a kid is now a Sainsbury's). But mum and dad warned me off Asda. They said that even Morrison's had a better class of customer than Asda. They said they'll occasionally go in to Asda because it has a very good bakery, but that it's like 28 Days Later or something, full of unwashed zombie hordes.

Ah, no. We still very much have it here.

It always mystified me that my Catholic primary school had a bonfire and fireworks on bonfire night. Our school trips were always to churches, or to stately homes with priestholes ("priest", "holes" and "school" are words that should never be mentioned in the same sentence) where we were told how much we Catholics were oppressed.

    And Northerners.

But then along would come November 5, and we'd burn a lovingly-reproduced Catholic with the best of them.

In reference to this, and my previous post, I reckon Southerners hate us because we have Booth's and they only get Waitrose.

And we have nicer beer, better food, proper hills, and better accents (apart from Scousers).

Yeah we burnt him cos he FAILED :)

But I'm sure that real reason for the North/South divide is that that the North has a higher percentage of Catholics, at least more your way. We were a good Catholic family educated at Stonyhurst but then hit the skids in the great recession (not the one just gone) :((

I'm sure the Anglicans are a bit dodgy. Just look at this picture of Henry VIII. Now look at it upsidedown!

Excellent. Yes, I think that's right.

Ahhhh... I still know some Stonyhurst people. That takes me back to my previous post about priests and holes and schools.

We weren't an English Catholic family. My mum's a Scottish proddy, but we're Catholic because my Dad's a Glaswegian Irish-Italian. So we don't have that whole English Catholic history of oppression thing. UKIP would probably want to send me back, were it not for the fact that I've gone already.

I can't work this out. What am I supposed to see?

    View it upside down.

Then you see the real Anglican influencer :)

And the story of how the picture was found is a bit strange too!

I was hoping to have baited a few of our colonial friends into this. Darn it. Maybe they don't know the meaning of Mary Hinge then?
