I normally don't shop at Walmart but was in the next county and was told that Walmart Murphy's brand gas was pure gas without ethanol. I was disappointed to find a 10% ethanol sticker on the pump.

When I was ready to push the button to select the grade I noticed there were two 87 octane selections. Does anyone know what this is? Could one be 87 octane with and without ethanol?

What are the prices on those two buttons, one markedly higher?

I think the one I chose was $2.47 a gallon and the other was $3.05.

I just went on Murphy's website and sent them an email to asked them.

But no explanation on the pump? Somebody's out-to-lunch on that.

I think that is where I heard it from. If they email me back I will know. I would like to find premium non ethanol fuel for my wife's 1960 Buick, it calls for premium and I would have to add lead substitute to it.

This would be about right for non-ethanol 87. Most say it's .45-.50 cents more per gallon. The only place to get it around here is out by the lake and that mom/pop bait store sells it for almost a $1.25 more a gallon.

Never seen a gas pump at Walmart we have been, but there are pumps at Sam's Club, but I don't know about ethanol free gas there. Ever since I first spotted a sign saying "Now Available Ethanol Free" up on our local Citgo station last year, I am seeing more and more stations having this choice around us.

Could be. Price should be different. No ethanol = higher price.

You probably can find an "octane boost" additive with upper cylinder lube too for less cost than putting in E0 premium.......which can be close to a dollar more per gallon in some places.

I didn't want to put ethanol in the old car because it wasn't designed for it.

Corn cob gasoline = death to small engines. At least any of the older ones. The formulas eat away internal lines and seals. The octane boosters do not prevent that.

Primo ethanol-free is widely available here because so many people have chainsaws, generators and other small engines. About a buck to $1.25 more per gallon.

And what is regular, 10% ethanol gas, about $2.50 per gallon? Seems just a leetle absurd, that 10% more gas costs close to 50% more. :cautious:

Distribution is going to cost more for ethanol, since it can't go into the existing petroleum pipelines.

    90% of it can.
That's why it is mixed at the distribution terminals so that the alcohol part isn't in the pipeline.

E85 is amazing for boosted engines though. You have to flow a ton of it, but it's nice how easy it is to end up with 500hp 4cyl motors using it.

A couple Sonic owners switched to E85 for the performance at the forum I once visited.

Walmart answered my email stating that the higher priced 87 octane is 1000% pure gas.
It isn't marked very well on the pump. There is a sticker on the pump that says "contains up to 10% ethanol".
