For the 2010 Prius, should there be a warning light when the windshield wiper fluid is low or out?

I don't see one in the Owner's Manual, but I have never seen a modern vehicle without a warning light for low/exhausted windshield wiper fluid. Mine ran out, and there was no warning indicator when it was low or empty.

Thanks. Funny how my post and that one are timed so similarly.

Glad to know it doesn't exist, so it's not broken!

Odd that it's not included or an option, but, well, I guess they had their reasons.

Well, I'm sure there are many others who like you, bemoan the absence of an "Windshield-Washer-Fluid-Low-Level-Idiot-Light", but I love my 2009 Gen II Prius, despite all its deficiencies, but I've never felt the need to ask for "Jam on it" (…so to speak!)

Edit: Stop Press! I've just noticed that the Windshield-washer Fluid bottle in my 2009 Gen II is semi-transparent, which means I can monitor the use of the contents, and refill when necessary! (…gotta hand it to those cunning Japanese! ;))

I've never had any vehicle with a low-washer-fluid warning, but this is my first one that makes the fluid level so difficult to determine.

Well the OP is wrong anyway. He HAS seen a new vehicle that doesn't have the light. His new Prius. ;)

I live in a fairly dusty area so I use lots of washer fluid....but I also like to check my oil level semi-occasionally.

I don't miss the electronic reminder at all.
All of my other cars have them, but since I yank the hood open every other fill-up or so to check fluids, and since windshield washer fluid is a .......fluid on the check list, it usually works out.

Toyota went with the yellow stick to save money.
    I'm OK with that.

    YMMV

It's a non-critical fluid, so they probably just didn't bother. Most every car/truck I've had in recent years didn't have a warning light for wiper fluid.

Oh, just found that the GIV Prius HAS the light or indication.
    Trade-in time! ;)

1.JPG 2.JPG 3.JPG 4.JPG I have personally never seen a dipstick for the window washer fluid. Maybe I just have not "been around" enough. But my 2016 Prius has one...

correct. it's like they molded the fluid bottle to fit any space that was left in the engine compartment, thus creating a giraffe neck filler.

There's the yellow plastic dipstick for checking, or is it missing?

Oh, it's there, but difficult to interpret. Fortunately, that's not important, as I'd rarely use the washer even if the nozzles were aimed properly.

Well the 2016 I think also has an indicator on the dash, at least the Toyota Canada site says all Canadian models have it, and if we do you definitely should. ;) We're always last to get stuff. I think the 2016 Prius is the first one for Canada to have the HUD (optional).

Maybe I'm just a poor child.....
But I've never owned a vehicle that offered a warning light for low windshield fluid.

However, I will say, every OTHER vehicle I owned had a much more easy to see and ascertain the fluid level reservoir.
IMO the plastic dipstick is nearly useless in determining remaining fluid level, and with the reservoir it's very hard to ascertain how full or empty it is.

My reaction has been just to be diligent in occasionally filling it up. It holds a lot. So topping it off every couple of months makes it a non-issue.

I've never had a problem reading that dipstick, but I've got strong myopia, which actually puts me at a advantage reading extreme close up stuff. I'm the go-to guy for threading needles.
