    As housepets they have many advantages over some of the more conventional pets kept in many homes (silverfish, crickets, etc):

    It just boggles the imagination to consider what it's possible to find in an auto forum today - even if I have to put it there myself :p

    I was aquainted with the banana slug in the early 70s
    when I spent a month travelling up and down the coasts
    of Washington and Ori-gun.

    Initially, they are quite startling. And they can be a hazard:

    I think that is is cool for UC Santa Cruz to have it as a mascot,
    although it is hard to imagine a "fighting banana slug."
