^ In the Massai Mara you can actually drive right up to lions. The BeetleCam video is cute, but you don't need that sort of thing to get good close-ups. I sat on top of a Land Rover watching a lion about ten feet away, for ten or fifteen minutes.

DW has seen these lions up close too. Just hope these cats never get as wise as the Yosemite bears who understand that vehicles are food containers.

Nope.

Lions on the Massai Mara are so shy that you cannot approach them on foot. You can only approach them closely in a vehicle. If you try to approach them on foot they'll run away. Gives real meaning to the term "scardy cat." The Massai have long killed lions as a way to demonstrate bravery.

Water buffalo, OTOH, will charge a vehicle that comes within about a quarter mile, tip it over, and do its best to kill the occupants, even though it has no culinary interest in them. My driver would not approach closer than about a half a mile to water buffalo.

With 21 hours of napping per day, and their greatest activity coinciding with the lowest electric demand, I'd say No.
