Well, I, for one, agree with the Iceland President and his views on pizza(just for etcss ;) )

I am somewhat ashamed to highlight an Australian Pizza Hut invention in this vein.

Yes. This is a pizza with a crust made of meat pies.

No, I have never tried it. My Italian grandmother would rise from the grave to disown me if I were to do so.

Compared to the bread bite crusts we get here, that is awesome.

Just don't call it pizza and go for it. From the looks of it, I'd eat it. As long as no one tried to palm it off as pizza. But I'd rather trade the green peppers for more meat. (y)

The meat is in the crust.

I'm sorry. You seem to have misunderstood the term "meat" in "meat pie", particularly as the meat pies in question are Four'n'Twenty brand.

"Meat" in this context means "unidentifiable brownish stuff that may once have been part of an animal, or have been in an animal, or at least have been swept up from the floor of an abattoir."

Once again, divided by a common language....

All this indignant flailing about toppings has finally got to the core issue - the tomato-based ingredient.

Tomatoes packed whole in cans are good. Often very good, and can be made into paste like forms for pizza etc.

Tomato sauce, puree, and similar are made from tomatoes 'not quite' good enough for whole-pack. I choose not to further describe 'not quite', because some folks may be at mealtime.

Zita@59. Not to be confused with ziti (a pasta); Zita is the Patron Saint of domestic servants. I was not previously aware She was being made into meat pies.

In Saudi Arabia, I suspect that might happen more than we might like to think.

Ah, some pictures of meat pies look quite yummy, but I should have guessed a restaurant chain like Pizza Hut would be using something premade and cheap.

I caught an interview with the author of a book on the tomato industry in the US on NPR awhile back. The inspiration for the book was a drive down the highway at speeds around 60mph. There were ripe tomatoes scattered on the shoulder. They were falling off a truck, and not smashing at those speeds.

Unless grown yourself, we probably don't want to give much thought to the condition of, and how it was grown, for any produce.

And a typo leads to learning a new factiod, thank you.

Disturbing was the fact that growers in Florida were brought up on slavery charges over their treatment of labor.

But in Oz, this is just the starter!

A proper stuffed crust, if ever I saw one.
